TN Visa transfer and renewal

Hi all,
I currently have a TN visa thru a consulting company in USA and it is expiring sometime in mid Aug. I am thinking of switching my consulting comapny to a new one. Is it ok to apply for a change now? Are they issuing new TN visas to Canadian Citizens at this time? Please advice.
 
There is no such thing as 'transfer'. If you want to work at another TN job, you simply need to get another TN. You can only work at your current job until the current TN expires, and you cannot start at thenew job until your get the new TN.

They are completely separate and independent of each other.

And to answer this one, the TN status has no cap unlike say the HB-1. So being there is no quota you can apply for a new TN status at anytime when you have the qualifying job lined up...
 
Thanks to all who replied. My question still stays are they issuing new TN status owing to the current state of USA economy and recession thing. I am a bit scared going to the border with a new job and company for TN just because of the recession thing that they might say NO for the TN extension. Any help or advice from most recent stamping of TN will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
 
Your fears are unjustified. besides, your TN expires in 6 weeks; are you going to retire instead of renewing TN?
