Question please: How do we get the State Tax Transcripts in NY? Do we need that at interview in addition to the Federal Tax Transcripts? Thank you very much for help!

Try searching for the NY dept of revenue. That's what I did for Illinois. Not that it did me a lot of good. I wrote to them (as they told me to) weeks ago stating that I needed my transcripts before my interview (which is today) - never got them. Let's just hope I don't get asked. Also I only have 4 years federal tax transcripts. They couldn't send 2003 by phone call, so I just printed out my taxslayer return for that.

I've only heard of a couple of cases where an applicant was asked to provide copies of state tax returns. I believe the reason for that was to prove residence in a particular state. From my personal experience, the IO who interviewed me didn't even want to see my tax transcripts. If you'd rather cover your rear and get NYS transcripts, take a look at this site:

I read this once before too, what are federal and state transcripts and where do I get these or can I simply take my W2 for past 5 years? please someone can explain.

In case you still need the Fed transcripts.

I got my transcripts very quickly by just calling the IRS number: (800) 829-1040. Follow the prompts. It's free.

Tax transcripts are copies of the IRS official records of your tax return. They serve as proof that you have paid your taxes. Your W2 just shows that you were paid and that employer withheld tax, it doesn't prove that you actually filed a return correctly. Transcripts are available free from IRS.

Good point. The only correction here could be the fact that you can request either "Copies of your tax return(s)" or "Transcripts". There is a difference. Copies are very expensive and takes forever to get. Transcripts are free and can be received very fast. I got mine in 5 days.

Thank You for your replies, but one thing I do not understand, why they ask for so many things, they already know everything about the person they are interviewing. Someone I knew file for USC, his N400 papers were return because for one of the year his tax was either not filed or there was so kind of tax problem. But it is good to know ahead of time so now I can get them.

My accountant filed my taxes married filing jointly even my never been to US. He filed form W7 and i got ITIN number and i am using this ever since. Does this pose any trouble at the citizenship interview or do i have to apply for an ammendment for that..

It's called the Good Moral Character. They want to see how good of a person you are. If you lie then you are in trouble. That's why.

Federal tax transcripts are available for only last 4 years. Is that enough? What about the missing 5th year (2003)? I called them and they said they can't send a transcript for 2003. A copy can be obtained by paying $39 but takes a long time and not sure if it will be helpful because it is just a copy of the return which I already have. Any suggestions? Thank you very much.
