Hi,
can I sponsor my brother or sister (if any of them have a family, like spouse and children) to get a GC status?
I have a GC status right now.
does it make any difference if I do that when I become a US citizen?

Thanks.

yeap, just about 12-14 years worth of waiting....after you become a citizen and file for them.

GeneralG,
Since your PR got approved last month, your siblings are looking at 18-20 years before they can get GC through your sponsorship.

So a work around can be if you sponsor your parents and they sponsor your siblings once they become USC. It can cut the wait down to 12-15 years???

Mfghazi,
Your parents cannot sponsor your married siblings. They can only sponsor your unmarried siblings, and that will take 6-7 years and those siblings cannot get married until one of your parents becomes a US citizen or they receive their GCs.

So you are saying that if a person has one child who is USC, but another one who is married and not a USC, then that person cannot cannot sponsor that married child and his/her family?

If your answer is yes, then I know many people who should not have become USC because their USC parents have other unmarried USC children.

No, what I am saying is that green card holder parents cannot sponsor married children, regardless of the fact if they have US citizen kids or not.

Seems like the options are:

LPR holder waits to become USC (5yrs + 1yr processing)
New USC sponsors married sibling for LPR (10-22yrs)
Total 16-28yrs (depending upon chargability)

or

LPR holder waits to become USC (5yrs + 1yr processing)
New USC sponsors parent for LPR (1yr processing)
Parent waits 5 yrs then becomes USC (5yrs + 1yr processing)
New USC parent sponsors married son/daughter for LPR (7-15yrs)
Total 20-35yrs (depending upon chargability)

Either way, its still looks like a helluva wait.
