I have the following questions

I am in US with my wife and son. My wife is not going to work and only myself and my son is going to work (waiting for SSN). And I am going to sponsor my daughter after 6-7months to get visit visa

1. Can myself and my son ask for medicare benifits (part or completely) while doing a job.

2. Can my wife get medicare benifits (partor completely) snce she is not going to do a job.

3. If one of us get medicare benifits ,will it affect when I sponsor for my daughter to get visit

Medicare is a government program which pays for you and your family's health care once you retire. It kick in after you turn 65 or are disabled before you turn 65. You won't be eligible for Medicare benefits unless you pay your medicare taxes for a minimum period (5 years I think)

Medicaid or a state equivalent may be available to help with medical care needs. They are "means-tested benefits" meaning that they are provided to people legally in the country based on income and family size. Google for mecidaid eligibility to find out. http://www.benefits.gov/

You have to pay into the system for at least 5 years but I think it is 10 years to be eligible. That is why they are strict on sponsorship and proof of having money.

You have to pay for your own health care like the most of us....btw to be honest I'm getting sick of people thinking they can come overhere and get a handout for things the rest of us has to work for.

You and your wife ...GET A JOB and get of your chair...it seems you know how to type on a computer so you could do something to earn your money instead of having your son pay for you, your wife and have him sponsor the rest of the family which is impossible if you don't have proof of income...this is the land of the free NOT the land of the free handouts!

OMG Calm down bentelebee, the guy just inquiring, and by the way now I am in Chicago and I am also wondering relax my friend, no one force you to pay to any one all of us all working not just you, so please don't be angry my friend, I understand your feeling, but come on the guy just asking, and as you said it's free land so can we do whatever we want :)

Bentlebee, I totally agree with you, no matter what others say. They just came in the country few days and already looking for free stuff while others that are in this country for years work hard to get it. You know how many immigrants dream about getting the GC in order to get a normal job and make enough money to live a decent life. I trully believe that in this country if you work hard and get an education and of course have a GC and than become a citizen, than you can afford to have a decent life. So guys work for the things you want to get , not dream of getting it for free, just because you are a PR.

Bentlebee, this is not the first time when you present at this forum a false information about benefits. Be aware that many people reading your posts may believe in what you say, and therefore make wrong decisions. Let's make it clear: every permanent resident is eligible for certain benefits starting with the first day in the US. Benefits are all different, and so is criteria of eligibility. Food stamps and Medicaid, for example, can be received for kids up to 18 year old immediately, if the family meets income guidelines. Pregnant women are in the same boat - no need to wait for five years. Those who need information about benefits are strongly encouraged to get it from official websites (federal, state, or municipal), and not from "somebody from a forum."

Madu12,

Thank you a lot. I think u may recognize me, me from Bangladesh. I sent you an email enquiring about an issue. My parents have already got visa. they will move for the US on february.

Well. i have searched a lot in the internet regarding the medical benifits in the US. so far i got the following information. If i do mistake, i request others to make correction please..

1. They medical benifits of the US depends on your income. Persons with high income should go for private health insurance. Persons with low income may go for public health insurance program. And there are two types of public medical benifts. Federal and State. I dont know , which state u reside, but each state has its own policy. Taking medical benifits ( if you are eligible) from government or other organizations will not effect you to sponsor anyone or will not convict you on public charge ground.

2. The most important thing is that, in the US , medical insurance guarantee the health of everyone most of which are all private and costs lot. If your earning is very low you may ask for medicare, medicaid etc from government. You may get medicaid if you live permanently for five years or more not before that. You will eligible for medicare if you become 65 yrs old, or if you are disbale and worked in the US for at least ten years. These two benifts are not fit for the new immigrants you see!

3. Then you may search for state medical programs. Like in the state of NY.it has progrmas like Child health plus, Family health plus etc. They scheme may help you. Go here for details..
http://www.nyc.gov/html/hia/html/public_insurance/public_insurance.shtml

4. Federal law of the US permits all the persons of US , whether legal/illegal/PR or not to get emergency medical assistance from any hospital either you pay or not. You may also take free medial treatment from few public clinic, hospital or private clinics who provide such free medical benifts. You have to search a nearer clinic for that , in the website .

Its a matter of great regret that in the US, there is no compulsory state administered free medical facily like some other first world nations in the workd. Thats why , there are so many debates regading the issue in the USA.

first of all YOU DON'T NEED A GC TO LEAD A DECENT LIFE!

this forum is for everyone and the primary aim is to share info and help each other, what you are trying to do is shunt people who seek help!

as a matter of fact if you are against DV and the new immigrants looking for a little help from the govt (may it be the tax payer's money). what makes you think that you are eligible to work in this country and even try to live a decent life here? you think you having done some schooling here gives you that right? or some H or L category visa? In that case all the LPRs should be cursing the H and L category Visa holders for stealing their jobs and giving them tough competition by being willing to work for peanuts and longer hours. The Citizens should be cursing the LPRs for immigrating and taking their jobs, not to mention the work oriented visa.....

well we all came to this country to get a fair opportunity of success. thats whats this country is all about. let it be any one, as everybody these days just wishes of a good life for them and their family.
he was inquiring about health care. He wasnt asking if he could trade in the food stamps he got for an ipod or a play station 3 or to buy mascara!

Good talk, i totally agree with you my friend.

Your not allowed to receive benefits from the start....since you had to proof to have above the poverty guidelines! So please get the facts straight before you give advise.

The sponsor can be liable if a person is falsely requesting for benefits! (Your name will be put in the system) To get food stamps you need to show proof of how much you have and that is not part of getting the GC!

So check your facts before you accuse me of anything and advising people to start getting benefits that we all work for to give for the people who really need it.

As I stated before any one under the age of 18 has the right for free vacinations at the health department that is something else than requesting food stamps which is for the people who have the lowest income or are living of the government for whatever the reason might be.

bentlebee,

Is not true, don't say what you don't know. In the state of Texas they are given help as a new immigrant without a job (food stamps and free medicals for the children) As for Adults it is also possible but you will pay a little token that won't hurt you.

My friend informarion is power.

One love.

Social Security Survivors Benefits, which are paid to a deceased worker's family, can help with financial problems that sometimes follow a worker's death by providing continuing cash income. The value of Social Security Survivors Benefits for an average wage earner who dies and leaves a spouse and two children is equivalent to a $322,000 life insurance policy. Of course, Social Security Survivors Benefits are paid monthly and not in a one time payment.
