Full marks to sunjoshi who initiated this thread. He is been outstanding with his ideas and overall contribution. He has displayed maturity of highest level throughout, right from the beginning when he initially accepted suggestions from everyone on his ppt presentation and gracefully incorporated them.

This thread was created on Nov 1st 2005, has more than 2525 replies and 338,600 views. (and counting..) , but guys if you noticed there were least arguments, least off-topic discussions and least discouraging statements.

I sincerely salute all the viewers (active or passive), specially all the active users (sunjoshi, pdakawala, spgtopper, nozdam, stucklabor, sundar99 just to name few) on this thread who have been instrumental in getting our point across to the senators/HRs. Great team effort.

Guys remember, Now is going to be the difficult time when tempers will run high and our strength of character will be tested. However, If we continue this spirit, I am sure we will win. Its just a matter of time now.

There are debates on legalizing illegal immigrants but no attention is being paid to the plight of LEGAL immigrants who have been waiting several years while their application for permanent residency languishes due to an issue called "Retrogression".

And keep in mind that these are LEGAL immigrants who have invested several years in the country. Moreover they are researchers, scientists, doctors, & engineers people that contribute powerfully to the USA.

The impact of retrogression is devastating. In spite of investing several years in the country, one is unable to settle down and become a permanent resident.
- There is no flexibility to change jobs or even titles, leaving enough room for employer exploitation and keeping the wages low
- Spouses are not allowed to work.
- The visa status has to keep being extended
- The person has to leave the country with NO grace period of he or she loses their job.
- In this state of flux, it is impossible to make decisions like purchasing a house, having children, etc


This is the story of thousands of hard working to-be legal immigrants. Non-immigrants undergoing treatment for serious illnesses have to worry about the continuity of the treatment. The inability of their spouses to work adds to the misery.

This is one such painful story as there are nearly 400,000 people affected by the retrogression and are facing serious trauma due to retrogression. Many people are feeling doom and gloom over the delays in the I-485 processing for most employment-based categories. The Senate and the House are discussing this to resolve it via section 8001 of the S.R. 1932 allowing applicants to file for adjustment of status even if the visa number is retrogressed. This will not only help resolve this issue but will also encourage generating huge amount of US revenues and taxes by raising the fees on these Visas. Failing to pass this bill will not only make potential loss of billons of dollars in investment and growth opportunites for americans but also frustrate hundered and thousands of brains to look for alterantes. The govt is blind not taking any immediate actions and letting other nations such as Asia to take advantage. In lack of an immediate action, will be a big innovation loss for US and an eventual brain drain to Asia.

Based on your suggestions I have contacted the appropriate people..I would rather NOT be mentioned in the media, since that will add additional media pressure on me..People around me can possibly correlate that to me.You can mention this as a possible/hypothetical/general case that can happen to anyone:

I still think we need to emphasise how america stand to loose $ potential. Specifically, we need to state if Govt can remove the retro/allow recapt of EB Visas, how they could charge a fee like prem processing..this would definately interest them (i mean the $ fee increase)..do u guys think this is not important ??

Possible Consideration of Conference Report on H.R. 4241 - Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 (Subject to a Rule) (Sponsored by Rep. Nussle / Budget Committee)

That means that conference report will be definitely out tomorrow. I know it doen't mean a thing to us. But I am surprised that Anti-Immigration lobby (Lamar Smith et al) prevails over a (only) provision that was proposed by judiciary committe and was approved with an overwhelming majority of 11 to 2. Not only that 84-14 was the vote tally against Byrd amendment in Senate.

This simply means that Anti-Immigration forces are so strong that they have forced a comprimise on something that was agreed on to with a vast majority in Senate (twice). They have won over common sense, more dollars to treasury and technology edge of America.

Wow that's quite a strong repulsion against a small group of law abiding, tax paying people who are NOT seeking anything more than some peace of mind in a free country, after waiting in line for a good 3-4 years.

It was a fight well worth it, regardless of the outcome.
