Hi all,
I just got my green card. I plan to travel to Bangkok in March and return on 12th April 2009. My passport (foreign) will be expiring on 31 Oct 2009. So, at point of entry to US, my passport will have 6 1/2 month life span. Is it good enough or do I need to extend my passport as a precaution?
If possible, I just want to go as is. Will it be safe at point of entry to US?

As long as your passport is valid for travel, you're fine. You can be in the US with an expired passport after that, even.

as long as your passport is still valid at the time you standing at the POE, you'll be fine. After you get back into the US, you can have an expired passport, no on is gonna prosecute you. only issue with expired passport is you cannot travel abroad.

Even if one day left in your passport, they will let you in. The 6 months rule apply for some consulates, if you request visa from them, they require passport valid for more that 6 months. This has nothing to do with you, I assume you are going to your home country (so you do not need visa) and return to US with the GC and valid passport.

Thank you.
I am going to Thailand (not my home country) to meet my parents.
I hope it is ok when I enter Bangkok on 28 Mar. (by that time, I will have 7 months passport life still left). If I need to extend passport, I have to pay taxes for about $ 1600 to issue extension:mad:. That is why I don't want to pay them money now yet unless it is absolutely necessary. I am paying dual tax (to USA and native country) now.

By then check the requirements of Bangkok authorities for the time required to be in passport before expiration date or wait for others feedback with real experience. For, US no problems to enter with GC and unexpired passport even for one day.
