Received letter from asylum office

I received a letter from the asylum office that says I am not required to go pick up the decision. It says that the decison will be mailed to me. I got that letter a week after my interview. I was out of status for almost 3 months when I applied for asylum. The asylum office is so close to my address.
Any idea why I got that letter? Is that a sign of approval or denial?

It is a sign that you will receive your decision by mail as opposed to in person.
 
hi assylum,
can u please tell me after filling the application,how many days it take to have the interview?i mean total days from I-589 to the interview date.
 
The interview was about 21 days after filing the application. I received the letter one week after the interview and that letter says that I will receive the decision by mail. I was out of status for 3 months when I applied. Why are they sending the decision by mail? I thought that out of status people have to appear in person to pick up the decision.
Does that mean a sign of approval/denial?
 
I was out of status when I applied and I am supposed to pick up the decision in person. Why did they tell me that I will receive it by mail? Does that mean that my case needs further review? Does that mean that my case is complicated?

I need your input please help
 
Don't worry, all that I personally know that were changed from "pick up" to "decision mailed" got recommended approval :)
 
I worry because I fount out from this forum that some people are waiting for months/years to receive a decision by mail. Living in a limbo is not fun.

There is a possibility that this can happen in your case. But there is nothing you can do about it at this point. Just wait and if no news after a while, contact them. Good luck.
 
When should I contact them? Is one month enough for me to contact them? Their office is so close to my house. Should I go there next month and ask about my case?
 
Assylum, I don't want to scare you, but we had to go pick up our decision, we didn't get it, but we got referred to see a judge. The guy that gave us the decision said we were lucky because if we were completely denied, they would have sent us a letter instead of having us pick it up.

I'm sorry for telling you this, it really doesn't mean that it's the same in your case, but I think you should be propared for anything. We were very sure we'll get it, and we didn't, and we were crushed, so it's better to know that anything can happen and be prepared.

Correct me if I am wrong. There is no complete denial for out of status people. They always refer them to court for removal proceedings if they fail to pass the inteview. Therefore, there is no difference between pick-up/mail-out because the referral letter will look the same.
 
It's been 3 weeks since my interview. I called them today and the operator told me that the case is still pending.

My question is what are they doing on my case? If they don't want me then why don't they just send me NTA? If they do want me, then what kind of work they have to do on my case?

I found out from some sites that the average time that the officer takes to write the assessment of the case is one hour. If this is true, then why do they need more than 3 weeks to make a decision.
Why don't they just say yes or no?
Does it really take that long to write NTA or recommended approval?

My case is so easy to verify. They can simply call the local church that I attend and gather all the info they want in one day?
My country situation is explained in details in the US department of status report so they don't have to call my country to verify. I just can't understand why they need more time to make a decision. Are they really working on my file or they just put it on the desk?

Hello Everyone.

my sister is a derivative Asylee, her husband file for asylum and had interview,unfortunately the case has been referred to Washington D.C head Quarters and it is pending there with no communication for the last 8 years, they are renewing their EAD based on pending asylum status.

Now due to some family emergencies ( my mom is not well) she will need to travel back to india so see my old mom who cannot travel.

1. Can she apply for Advance Parole as she is not principal asylee ?

2. Can she take infopass appointment and ask for a emergency AP at local office?

3. what do we need to do to expedite the process
which is pending for 8 years with no decision.

4. Passport issued by Indian government is also expired few years back, Pleae kindly suggest.

5. Principal Asylum applicant is not traveling with them.


Appreciate any help references or any lawyers who can help in this matter, they live in Sanfrancisco.
