Hello people,

Hope you're all doing great!

So, I'm in the USA at the moment, but I'll return to my home country in the next few weeks and will return probably after 6-7 months. Do I need to apply for an I-131 (re-entry permit) ?

Thanks guys!

I would say no, you do not need it for trips under 12 months. However, why should you rely on forum people when you can easily get this information from USCIS?

We usually don't find answer to our confusing question from websites some times. That's why we come to forums. But thanks for your information. I just wanted to be sure before doing moving. Because people experience these kind of situations, it's easy to get answers.

I read on some forums that it also might depend on which border patrol employee you run into. Some don't ask any question others are difficult....

Getting an RP for a stay out of the US of fewer than 12 months isn't required, but, it does help prove your intention of returning, especially if you just entered the US and got your GC in hand. If you can afford it, I'd suggest getting it to avoid a lot of hassles.

I think he tried to say Re-entry permit (RP ??)

By the way, how long will it take to get biometric once file I-131.

What is the process to file I-131, Can anyone know please.

No, RP is the abbreviation we use most often on this forum to mean Re-Entry Permit. Apparently, the whole process takes around a month these days, so you should get your biometrics letter in a week or two. The process is laid out clearly in the I-131 instructions.

Can some one help me to fill I-131 form please.

My question are:

Part 1. Information about You

what is : A Number ..............
what is : Class of Admission ...............

Your A# is the number USCIS asks for in all your forms. It's on your GC. Class of admission should be PERMANENT RESIDENT.

Oh, you're not a GC holder yet. Then, your class of admission is ASYLEE, and your A# should be on your asylum papers.

Oh, haha, then I'm full of crap. Ignore my previous post. You ARE a PERMANENT RESIDENT, and you will be given your A#.
