Questions on Recommended Approval

I received a Recommended Approval on my asylum application. I have 2 questions:
1. Will there be any trouble for me move to a difference state now?
2. When can I apply for green card? Is it a year after recommended approval or after the final approval?

Thanks!

First of all congratulation on your approval.
Here are the answer to your questions:
1)If I were you, I wouldn't move to another state until I get my approval letter. USCIS documents/letters don't get forwarded to another address, therefore there is a big chance you might not get the approval letter. Even if you change your address by contacting the 800 number and sending the change of address doc, you still are not guaranteed that they will update the change of address on time. It's too risky. I wouldn't do it. The other thing you can do, if there is going to be somebody you know very well who will live at your old house, they might hold it for you, but it's still tricky because by law you are required to inform the USCIS of a change address within a week or something like that.

2) You can apply for GC one year after the approval date and NOT after the recommended for approval date.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

MGTgrl, thanks a lot!

When you said "If I were you, I wouldn't move to another state until I get my approval letter," you mean the FINAL approval letter, not the recommended approval letter, right?

How long does background checking typically takes?

It is well put together by MCTgrl.
I would not move during a pending case, unless I have to.

You will be eligible to apply for adjustment of status after 1 year of the FINAL approval and NOT after 1 year of the Recommended approval.

Background check takes 72 Hours up to 120 Days if your have NO MATCH or NO HINT. If you have a MATCH or HINT that could take many months even years.

I hope that'll help. Best Luck.

Is change of address the only concern here regarding whether or not to move to other places? If so, that means my husband can move if he gets a job somewhere else as long as I don't move?

Where are you moving to? I would not move to another state or something. They would have to transfer your whole file to another asylum office and that could really delay final approval.

You can apply for your green card one year from FINAL approval.

How you got the GC in hand on March 2007 at the same month of Approval ?
You said applying for GC can be done after one year from Approval !!
So how come you got it after 2 weeks !

explain please
thanks

My asylum was approved in March of 2000 (not March 2007). The approval letter I mentioned in my signature is the approval letter for my adjustment of status. You get your GC soon after adjustment of status (or GC) has been approved. The approval letter that was discussed on this thread was the asylum approval and not GC approval. I hope it's clear now.
