Processing time for green card based on asylum

Hi guys
My asylum was granted in Feb 2023 and I filed my i485 on April 2024
Fingerprint notice received on May 2024 and since then I am waiting for almost 14 months.
Any thoughts?
Should I wait more or can I file the mandamus?
I applied in February 2024 and ref sent to me on September they received it on October and still waiting god knows for how long i did inquire first time they says nothing wrong with the application but no available source and overload then i inquired second time they need 60 days to respond

Hello folks, I applied on Dec 2023 and it has been I think 20 months, once I did an inquiry and they said everything is ok and you have to wait, today I did Congressional inquiry and do you think if it works or no?

I believe it depends on your luck so there’s no standards, some applied after us and they got it and some before us and they’re waiting but try to reach every possible step that can give you a hope.

I hope it works for you. Let us know if it works, maybe we will follow suit.

I submitted the paperwork to have my case followed up by the congressman 20 days ago, but I haven’t received any updates yet. I’m not sure if it will make a difference, though I’ve heard they usually respond to congressional inquiries within a month.

1 year has pasted for my GC application on 4/16/2025. Not any update

On 5/30/2025, I chatted with an agent from the USCIS. She told me "it is actively under review. An agent worked on it on May 15th." I made an inquiry at that time for expediting my application. On 6/3 they emailed me saying"
USCIS systems indicate that we are actively reviewing your application, and nothing is outstanding at this time."

Still no updates. It has been 15 months now. Still waiting.

Good that I have my RTD until May 2026.

Is your application outside of normal processing time? based on your timeline it is not, first line agents have no idea whats going on and they may only give you feel good responses .

Hi everyone, sorry if this has been asked before but when submitting an application for I485 after asylum granted, what needs to be included? Saw this online and wanted to confirm:

- 2 photo
- I485 application
- Birth certificate
- Photo ID
- Marriage Certificate (if married)
- Medicals (I693)
- G1145
- Passport page (old and new)
- Asylum approval Notice
- Stamped I94
- Evidence of physical presence in US (what can be submitted for this?)

Question:
- For the proof of physical presence, does I94 satisfy?
- Will this be the same checklist for both principal and derivative?

They do receive thousands of inquiries from congressional or senators and send a formal response at the very end stating that they will wait another 60 days or don't do anything. i spoke to an attorney who does a lot of lawsuits and knows exactly what is happening (not ours, who is handling our application), and they told me they don't even touch this cases unless there is some sort of force like mandamus, but my attorney said first send the congressional inquiry because he is not advising for manudams. very stressful and confusing situation. btw, how long you wait for your asylum approval after the interview?

Do you know why it’s not very advisable to file for the mandamus?

I think beacuse your lawyer believes that Mandamus is the last resort, not the first option
Makes sense! We have ton convince the court that we tried all the possible ways!
In less than a month, 15.5 months will be passed for me and I already tried through the congressman ( no results yet)
I will be waiting until 16 months and then my plan is to file for the mandamus

Courts know exactly what is happening and why they don't even review these I-485 applications, you might even see a new EO any day that says we just need to send everything through the vetting process. The thing is they don't want more approvals from this category. you can see there was FIOA request filed by American Immigration Lawyers Association in late march they did not even respond to that, and they field a lawsuit against uscis and there is nothing even happening with that. It is really concerning.

They have 60 days to respond to the lawsuit but I think DHS will try to dismiss it. At this point Mandamus might not work anymore, we might need to file a class of action.

Seems like there are no new asylum based i485 cases approvals since the new administration. The only hope is to wait for a next immigrant-friendly President. I submitted my i485 on August 2023, and it is almost 2 years, but nothing happened. God bless us.

Have you sent them any inquiries or recived any RFE?
