Processing time for green card based on asylum

We received our Refugee Travel Document (RTD) last month and have been waiting for our Green Card since March 2024. We are eager to travel, but it seems that even with the new travel ban, Asylees from certain countries are excluded. I would like to know if anyone has had recent experiences traveling with an RTD without a Green Card and whether they encountered any issues entering the country. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could share their experience. Thank you!View attachment 6549
Last year I had traveled to Netherlands with that and I had not my green cards on time, while entering back to USA they took me and my kids to the security room and ask question like where I was and where is my home in USA, I think they just want to update the I 94 and also they want to make sure that you did not traveled back to your home country, at the end the officer told me Im giving you an advice that do not travel until you receive your green card next time and Im taking his advice since my country is on the list of travel ban list.

Thank you for sharing. Could you tell me which airport you entered the US at, and did you encounter the same issue when arriving in the Netherlands? And wondering why he said that to you, you did not do anything wrong.

THAT'S so untrue info!!! anyone has RTD can travel using RTD!! NO NEED FOR GREEN CARD TO TRAVEL IF YOU GOT VALID RTD!! the CBP officer who told you that should be fired immediately for spreading false info !!! btw CBP officers ain't an immigration officers and their knowledge of the immigration laws are very limited.

I think the CBP officer was nice to give her that advice. He did not have to advise. He gave that advice because that would be the safer option.

what safer option? have you ever heard about someone with RTD, and no criminal history been detained? it never happens!! RTD alone is enough to travel and come back safely so everyone needs to stop freaking out or give untrue advice to immigrants.

Thanks. That is a great and rational point, law is the law (as long as they don't change it overnight). Have you traveled with RTD before or recently, without GC?

yes of course I did not do anything wrong, and he just told me that in a piece of advice and it did not hurt me or anyone, so I told you that since I want to keep myself in safe zone so Im listening to him until I get my green card, I did not had any problem when I entered to Netherlands( in fact my first stop was in Frankfurt then Netherlands) but Im advising you to book your flight with a known airline cause I booked with Condor Airlines and flight was from PDX airport, a problem happened there that; while I arrived to the airport and it was my turn to scan the passport and do the check in process, they told me to step aside and let us first finish everyone, I got so stressed and even they were not telling me what is the problem, after I got serious and started asking questions back to back, they told me that RTD is unknown for our systems and our systems are not accepting that, so 3 of them were calling back to back to someone to solve the problem and no body was answering, everyone checked in and we were still sitting there, finally somebody answered the call and problem solved, so here Im telling you it was not our problem but Condor Airline problem's.

please read my comment properly, I was telling since my country is on the list of travel ban so I want to keep myself in a safe zone, and I believe that law is law but with all changes which is happening after new Administration so I believe CBP officers are having more power to not let people enter to the country for any reason that they believe which is reasonable except green card holders and US citizens.

Nope, CBP officers can't stop anyone from entering the US just because they have an RTD only and not GC yet! You should really learn more about asylee status in the US. You'll see that no one can prevent you from coming back unless you have a criminal record, and that's a completely different situation.
have a good one,

i went to Vietnam in February 2025 with RTD and no GC and despite of my unfortunate experience (Vietnam didnt accept my RTD, so i had to kiss the airport doors and go back to the US and yes i had electronic visa that Vietnam issued), i had no issues coming back to the US with only RTD. They took me to a different room cuz I have the same passport number as some American citizen who reported the passport lost/stolen so they were just checking some stuff in their computers. But i was out of there in no time. I told them i havent slept in 2 days and spent over 30h on the planes, so they tried their best to get me through the passport control asap lol

It is helpful for those like me still waiting close to 2 years. Patience is the key thinking of mandamus in a month.
