Processing time for green card based on asylum

INTERVIEWS with the current administration is more than normal so no worries and just keep reading your asylum case again and again cause most likely they will ask you some questions about it

Why did you wait extra 6 months after 1 year passed?
Please keep us informed about interview.
I encountered complications with my medical exams. Although I managed to include all my vaccines through my medical insurance, I had to wait for full approval. Additionally, our lawyer needed some time to review all the applications for 3 of us. Long process.

Interviews were common during the T first term but be positive about it , it means action on your case rather than silence and approval rate is still good so just smile and be prepared, funny thing is not everyone is being interviewed.

If I understand you are the principal applicant. Please keep us posted about the interview. Good luck to you

Hey everyone,

I’m in the process of applying for my Green Card and have a few questions I was hoping to get some insights on. Did anyone here apply on their own (I'm plannind to do so), or did you use a lawyer for the process? What was your experience either way?

Also, I’m a bit confused about the Medical Exam and Vaccination Record. Did you send these along with the Form I-485 in the same package, or did you wait for a request? I’ve seen some people saying they were asked for an RFE (Request for Evidence) after submitting, so I’m curious what those requests typically involve and if it's something I should anticipate.

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi, let me try to answer:

1. I filed with attorney but honestly you can fill it out yourself especially if finances is a problem. If finances is not a problem then you can hire an attorney.
2. You have to file I-485 with your medicals, it is a requirement now from USCIS. Otherwise, your I-485 will be rejected.
3. How long has passed since your asylum grant?

In the past you were able to send your package without medical exam, but as of 2025 you must send your medical exam with I-485 package. Otherwise, USCIS will reject your application. I sent my package 3 months after asylum approval and I did not send my medical so I can buy some time if they process my application sooner.

I did it myself and sent medicals with it. You don't need a lawyer for that. It got approved.
