After PP stamp, we were told that it is an entry permit, not an exit permit. Anybody knows what it means? what is Exit Permit? Do I need to apply visa if I go to Canada?

Thank you

The I-551 stamp is proof that you are a PR (until the physical card arrives) -- you should be able to exit / enter the US as much as you want once you have this.

Exit permits are for bannana republics and totalitarian dictatorships who need to put up walls, barbed wire, searchtowers and armed guards to keep their citizens from fleeing as fast as they can. America has no exit permits; you are always free to leave. The I-551 stamp helps you enter, nothing more.

You may want to see what visa requirements Canada places upon US permanent residents based on their original citizenship. I know the US waived certain visa requirements for Canadian PRs of commonwealth countries, but that was eliminated post-9/11.
