The situation:

I have a boyfriend, who is green card holder (obtained through his first marriage) and he is eligeable to apply for citizenship only in 2011. We are planning to move in together in a month.

I am the citizen of European Union and usually enter USA under visa waiver program, which allows me to stay there uninterrupted for 3 months only, if I am right.

How long can I stay without additional paperwork? What can be done for me to stay legally?

Business visa and other expensive investmenst, unfortunatelly, are out of question for us.

May student visa help to stay there till my man gets citizenship and marries me?

I have a master's degree in finance, how realistic is to get a job visa and how much would it cost?

Or do I miss any better solution?
What can be done here, so we wont be forced to get separated? :(

If we get married while he is perm. resident, how long will I have to wait outside the country?

Thank you for replying, I'll definitely try.
There are few things regarding this approach, that seem to make it difficult, though - first and obvious is current labor market, and the second - I heard H1B takes like a year, i.e. to break through the paper work... Is it right?

New H1B visas are issued each year starting in October*, but applications are accepted starting in April. So that's 6 months, not a year.

Because of the bad economy it's likely the quota won't be all used up in April. So you might be able to apply as late as June/July and still get a visa in October.

*unless the organization you work for is quota-exempt, which is unlikely for you unless you are going to teach at the college level.

4-5 years if he does not become a citizen.

And if he becomes a citizen it takes like 6-12 months, right?
Lets say - he got citizenship, we got married, I applied for my status change.
Do I have to wait this time outside USA or I can wait for in while being with my husband?
