Parents' interview due to incorrect answer to "have you ever been inspected by an immigration office

Hi,

I filled in the form for my parents, but when answering the question "have you ever been inspected by an immigration office", I misunderstood it and said "no". They entered USA legally every time through the customs, but I thought the question is meant for something else. Can anybody help me how to fix this in the interview? Is it possible that their applications will be rejected due to that? Should I pay a lawyer to go with us for the interview?

Thanks a lot,

Please provide more background for your case.

Which form are you referring to? Who is sponsoring them, you or another relative?

I am a citizen sponsoring the GC for my parents.
As to the question "Have you ever been inspected by an immigration officer", if you answered no, that means you entered USA illegally.
When I filled in the form, I didn't get the question. I thought officers at the customs do not belong to immigration officers.
My parents have been to USA several times with B2 visitor visa.

Thanks for your help!

You have helped your parents file for adjustment of status and checked the wrong box on the I-485 because you misunderstood the question, right?

The basic purpose of an adjustment interview is to review the answers on the the form and make correction in order to allow the USCIS Officer to detremine eligibility and admissibility.

This is not the reason that they are scheduled for an interview. Family-based adjustment applicants being interviewed are as close to 100% processing routine as USCIS gets, just short of naturalization interviewing.

???I'll bet that you either went through an employment-based adjustment or consular processing???

Sorry I missed your question, Jackolantern. The question is on form I-485.
I went through an employment-based adjustment and got my citizenship last year.
Yes, I helped my parents file for adjustment of status and checked the wrong box due to my misinterpretation of the question.
Will the officer give us a hard time during the interview because I was not careful enough when filling the form?

Thanks for all the help.

Sorry I missed your question, Jackolantern. The question is on form I-485.

Good. That means they're inside the US, and presumably you submitted a copy of their I-94 with the I-485. This won't be a problem for them, as the I-94 will make it easy for USCIS to know that they were inspected. They should correct it at the interview and they'll be OK.

Thanks for your replies and help.
Yes, I submitted copies of their I-94 and they are in USA right now.
I feel much better after getting the replies. I was kind of nervous about what will happen at the interview.

Thanks again,
