I have a question regarding my native country's passport. I have a permanent resident card and my passport from my native country will expire soon. Do i have to extend my original passport for the interview ?

Hopefully , if i pass the interview and get my US passport , I do not think I will use my native country's passport. So should i go with expired passport or even extend for another year just to be on the safe side ?

Go with the expired passport. Don't waste your money and time if you are not planning to renew your native country's passport once you naturalize.

You do not need to have a valid passport for your interview. An expired one will suffice.

Since you have made up your mind, you will only be wasting your money renewing it. I keep all 3 of my passports valid, but that is a personal choice :)

Triple Citizen is correct.
You do not need a valid passport from your home country for the interview.

My passport expired in 2006 and did not renew it as I had no plans to travel. At my interview I was asked to show the passport but only to verify my travel dates, which I didn't have any.

You don't need a valid passport as a US permanent resident, but it's always prudent to have one at all times, just in case. And, even if you do not WANT to renew your other passport once you become a US citizen, maybe the other country requires you to enter and leave with that passport, so unless you don't ever want to go back, you may have to renew it anyway.

But you do need a valid foreign passport as a LPR for travel outisde the US.

My NP expired in 1999. It was never an issue during GC adjustment as well as during naturalization interview. Both times IO checked my entry visa stamp and gave it back no questions asked.

If your country accepts dual nationality and you want to visit your home country after becoming a U.S citizen, then you may need to present a valid passport (from your home country) to enter the country. OR you could just get a visa on your U.S passport to enter your country. If you plan on visiting your home country often then it would make sense to renew your passport. If not, then no need for it.
