Plz post your experiences of getting OCI in India.

- How easy/difficult was the process
- How many days did it take
- What all documents did you submit
- Anything else to look out for, incase one wants to get OCI from India
 
Mom got it in Bombay. Pretty easy. The police came to the house to check that she lived there, and in a month she went to the station with her passport to get the booklet and sticker. Documents submitted were exactly what was asked for in the application instructions on the MHA website.
 
Also, after getting US citizenship, can we get a visitor visa without surrendering Indian passport ?

Would like to surrender the Indian passport in India when applying for OCI in India. Is it possible ?
 
No. You will have to surrender your citizenship before getting any Indian consular services. What YOU want to do is illegal because you lose Indian citizenship as soon as you become the citizen of another country.

---For Visa or PIO or OCI you need to pay the fees and get your Indian Passport canceled.

--------You will NOt get Visa if you don't get your Indian passport cancelled.

----- OP is not trying to do anything illegal. He does not know that Indian Government has started Donation collection on the name of surrender certificate . According to Indian constitution they day OP took Oath for US Citizenship he/she lost Indian Citizenship and Indian passport automatically became invalid for travel. They just started this new Donation and few paid $175, or $20 or $175. Did they changed Indian constitution recently? OCI started in 2005 or 2006(nobody collected $175 and at that time it was Same Indian constitution and at this time it is the same .
