Hi all,

Apologies in advance if this has already been answered. I'm currently in the States but am planning to return home (Sydney) before my interview. However I am trying to prepare as much as possible in the mean time. I am looking at getting the AFP Police Check complete but I am unsure how to go about with the fingerprints given that I am currently in the States. Is there any way I can get this done in the US or would I have to wait until I go home for this?

Also does anyone know how to go about the DS-1810?

Cheers
We are also in the states at the moment. We got our fingerprints done at the local sheriff's office and sent the physical prints along with the printed offline form to Canberra. We got a link to download our approved certificate about 2 weeks after they received our documents.

As a side note, Fedex, UPS and DHL don't directly deliver to the locked bag address provided on the form. We used DHL and received tracking to Canberra, but a third party completes the delivery so you won't actually get confirmation it has made it all the way. I emailed for an alternate address in case it had to be diverted, and they suggested;

AFP Criminal Records
Level 1, 53-73 Alinga St
Canberra City ACT 2600

You should get tracking the whole way with that address, but ours made it to the locked bag eventually so maybe not necessary.
Good luck, postage from the US isn't cheap!!

Thank you for the detailed response!!

hey @Happy2BeHere and @Sm1smom

i'm currently at a police station now to fix up the correct name check and fingerpint scan however they cannot give me a AFP receipt on the spot as it needs to go to be mailed and i need to have it by today to send off the consulate as they came back saying i have until the 30th! what can i do?

good luck to everyone at their interviews!

just to be reminded with everything as its been an absolute whirlwind of organisation

what did we need to take in with us to the interview?
Passport, money/way to pay for the application and I’m also taking another copy of everything I sent in/additional evidence such as bank statements in case!

Actually make sure you take a physical debit or credit card. I took mine as back up in case my phone didn't work. I completely forgot they take your phone off you when you enter the consulate. Pure luck I thought about it.

Hey all,

Exciting times as the interviews come up for everyone.

Apologies if this has been answered already however, has the Sydney Consulate been asking for proof of funds? I am going to get very close to what people suggest online ($15,000USD) but won't exceed this amount. I understand there is no actual set figure, just that I need to prove I won't become a "public charge". Anyone had any issues with this of late? I have people that can do the I-134 form but want to avoid if possible as I don't want to put anyone in a sticky situation.

Cheers,

Sydney rarely asks for proof of funds, but they could do so, depending on the circumstances of the applicant. So - if you want you could try interviewing without financials, or get ready for that question just in case. $15K per person is good if asked, but an I-134 is ideal.

Has anyone actually had their Sydney appointment cancelled after not getting documents back to them 20 days in advance? I’m not going to make their deadline as I only just sent through my police check.

I am not sure why the Sydney consulate are doing this! It seems a little unfair

hey! i had the same issue but i was able to email them and advise them of my situation and got it to them in time!

Hi guys, SOS! I’m panicking…puking… crashing out. if anyone can help or offer reassurance I’d really appreciate it!

I emailed the Sydney consulate to request more time to get my documents in, as my eMedical letter and police check are still pending. They seem to have misinterpreted the request and cancelled my interview!

I’m completely freaking out. They’ve said: “Please reply with a copy of your Australian Federal Police certificate and medical exam appointment confirmation. Once we have this, we will provide the next step before securing an appointment.”

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Of having their interview cancelled? If so, were you able to get a rescheduled appointment sorted soon enough?

Arggg I’m so worried that I’ve blown everything. Since they’ve used the words “securing an appointment” and they’re sending me off for my medical (which I’ve already done) I have some hope, but I’m finding this all incredibly stressful. Especially because I can’t seem to get through to a human on that 1300 number.

If anyone can help out I’d be super grateful. Thanks so much!

Relax. It's mid November. There is plenty of time to sort things out.
