Oceania OC 2026 Winners Thread

Yes I think that is correct. I think the process is we need to fill in the AFP form and buy an express postage pack and the police officers post it to Canberra and then the police certificate is sent back to us. After that, we arrange all of the other documents and send it off to the consulate - the problem being here the 30 day time cut off which no one with a November interview is likely to meet.

Thank you for this!
I have had the absolute run around being told completely different things by different police officers.
Thank you again!

We had to get fingerprints done for a Canadian check & this was similar the process they used. They took all the paperwork needed for the fingerprint check, & sent the fingerprints to the RCMP without giving us a copy of them. The RCMP then sent the results to us.

I don’t know about giving them all of your documents to send on to the US consulate though - that doesn’t sound like a good idea given we’re talking about original birth, marriage certificates etc. I’m concerned about sending that in an express envelope as it is, never mind handing these documents over to a rando at a police station…
Yes I agree I think the officer was unsure of the process. Going to call AFP tomorrow to see if they can help!

Hi @CoffeeandTea ,

The AFP digital police check is by definition a 'copy' because you are printing it. Because it is digital what matters is the QR code, not the paper it's printed on.

I suspect there will be a follow up email with what documents to bring to interview after they have reviewed your mail package.

This whole process is new, so we just have to go along with it and be the first guinea pigs. ;)

I am only receiving a paper copy of my Australian certificate. I thought we all required the paper one as that is the only option for fingerprints?
My UK one does not have a QR code, so there is only a paper version there. Same with 2 other countries I have them for.
So I post the original and photocopy of each of them?

That is what I am going to do!

Does anyone know if we have to do the medical before the interview?
You are supposed to (and post the sealed results 30 days before your interview). However, I notice on the checklist it states 'medical exam appointment confirmation/sealed medical report', so there must be recognition not everyone can do so in time.
But I know for the 2025 diversity visa (when you only brought your documents to the interview) some people couldn't get an appointment in time, so did the medical after their interview and posted the results when they received them.

Ok I have an appointment 3 days before my interview so I doubt they will be ready in time for the interview but I also assume given that checklist that it is ok…I guess we will see!

To give some comfort in other visa interviews at the US consulate in Sydney I have done once you are there the people are very nice and generally helpful!

Hi @aususa2026,

I sent the originals and copies. Anyone gets that envelope, they can clone me

Thanks @Happy2BeHere, hope the postman can do his job properly for you! Feels very strange to be sending originals through the post, really hoping we can all get some more clarification in the next few days! I'm hoping the threat of cancelling our appointment if they don't have docs 30 days in advance is just a generic empty threat they put on everything and not something they actually do!!

Has anyone been able to speak to a person that works at the sydney consulate? Concerned I have not received an email respond from anyone yet!

Not yet. I sent an email on Friday, but no response either.

I just spent the entire day putting all the documents together. Might have to drop it off in person as our whole lives are in this package....

I wonder if we are allowed to do this! I live about 10min drive from the consulate and I am seriously considering this!!

Who has the first interview?
I saw someone mentioned theirs was on 10 November.
Anyone have an interview before 10 November?

Otherwise, can the 10 November interview person please share if they receive any updates or feedback because they will know everything first!

I also just received the email. 10th Nov at 9:30am. I will be rescheduling due to AFP just receiving my Check and Prints by post yesterday. Even if my interview is pushed to FEB/MAR/APR I haven’t done my medical yet so I can cancel the appointment, and everything is valid.

Why are you guys rescheduling? If you have missing documents you can follow up after the interview.
Because the sydney consulate requires police check with fingerprints to be provided at least 30 days before the interview or else it is cancelled.

Yes thank goodness! No acknowledgment of the issue with documents and time though…I am going to reschedule to ensure I have enough time.
Yes, we got the email too. Still no word on the documents as you said. I'm thinking of confirming the appointment despite the missing fingerprints though...
