@abbeys207 I'm wondering if we just send what we can & hope for the best. *with an explanatory note
I went in to the Adelaide City police station to have my prints taken on Friday (before long weekend) $169 and the officer was lovely. I already had my pre-filled out AFP documents and he went over them and filled in the spot for officer number and same and had it signed by Sargent. He also validated my copy of the passport and Drivers Licence for the AFP background check. Walked to the post office, posted it express to Canberra now we wait 15-20 days for the results to be sent back….about 17 days after the 30 day cut off for the consulate…I can only do what I can do. My Fiancé is from the US, so I’m not afraid of rejection from the consulate as I only won this opportunity on a whim of me entering the lottery. So I can be the experiment I guess haha. Still yet to receive my 2NL….even though my interview is on the 10th Nov (according to KCC)
Hey, No worries. Thanks for sharing. A few questions!
1. Did you only apply for the paper form 33 AFP police check (with paper form fingerprints you take with you), or also the digital one (with liveprint fingerprints)?
2. Is it normal to pay for paper fingerprints? I did mine free in NSW and took the 2 paper pages with me to post.
3. Certified copies of IDs - was that your choice or required because the form states 'Note: Documents do not need to be certified unless a translation is being provided or you are supplying a power of attorney'?
Thank you!Hey, No worries.
I ticked 33 on the form (immigration purposes)- AFP will not accept live scan fingerprints unless you get a hard copy of them printed which they were unable to do in SA (live scan for criminal processing only) so I was only able to send them as ink based.
It’s always costs money for fingerprints in SA, my fiancé was charged $145 in 2018 when she filed for PR in Australia. So it’s gone up.
The officer just did it as an added extra, no requirement but he stated it’s good to supply noted documents for AFP
As it says on the form (the space for your credit card information) that’s mail order, you’re sending them your card information via the mail. Don’t be confused with the live scans for finger prints, it’s not required at al, just get ink, simply attach the prints to the AFP application and send all via post. Don’t forget to tick the $113 option on the AFP form, including fingerprints. The officer I saw at 3 pm that day said he had seen 2 other people for fingerprints for Australian Immigration and it was a similar process.Thank you!
This whole fingerprint process is so confusing to me because AFP told me something very different to the NSW police and now you are telling me something else. But your explanation sounds the most rational so far.
'You can’t use an online application if you need to include fingerprint checks. You’ll have to apply by post.'
So the translation is....if we can, we are to do BOTH live scan AND paper fingerprints, but if we cannot then ONLY paper fingerprints.
And what is with payment? Can we pay by credit card or not?
Because the form has space for it, but the website states multiple times only cheque or mail order.... I wish forms and websites were kept consistent!!!
I don’t believe any “maybe small number” have received their 2NL. There is a system glitch that hasn’t sent them out in time (according to BritSimons video the other day). KCC would have told you your interview date via email when you asked if it was processed.Hey all. My case number is 8XX and I haven't received a 2NL as of yet. My DS260 has been processed. Is this normal?
It's a bit alarming to say the least, and on top of that they want originals in some cases. I'm also wondering if it's specific to the Sydney consulate? I'll be curious to see if London has introduced the same rule...Is anyone else worried about this 30 day request and sending original documents to the Sydney consulate? We’re constantly told to be careful with our personal ID and yet now we’re just sending it through the mail to a consulate who won’t even communicate with any of us. Our (AUMatt and myself) children’s information is included and that makes me very uncomfortable. I’m wondering what everyone else is thinking?
I meant 'money order' not 'mail order'. The AFP website says 'bank cheque or money order only'.As it says on the form (the space for your credit card information) that’s mail order, you’re sending them your card information via the mail. Hi @aususa2026,@Happy2BeHere
Sorry to be a pest, but did you also send in any originals to the consulate (birth, marriage, education etc) or just copies of everything?
Yes I think that is correct. I think the process is we need to fill in the AFP form and buy an express postage pack and the police officers post it to Canberra and then the police certificate is sent back to us. After that, we arrange all of the other documents and send it off to the consulate - the problem being here the 30 day time cut off which no one with a November interview is likely to meet.I meant 'money order' not 'mail order'. The AFP website says 'bank cheque or money order only'.
A credit card is neither of those. You do a money order at a post office, you can't do it yourself.
I have never felt more stupid than doing this. I have done many police checks in many countries and this is by far the most confusing.
Did you post your forms yourself (literally walk to a mailbox and post it?) because I just spoke to the larger police office near me and they said we aren't allowed to take our paper fingerprint forms, the police must post it themselves internally or its invalid. First I have heard that?
I think this list is correct. The only things we don’t post are the payment for the visa fee (which is done at the consulate on interview day) and our passport. To be on the safe side I am going to bring a copy of everything to the interview. I have also ordered new originals of my birth certificate and school/Uni certificates so all is not lost if I send them!Hi all,
Same as everyone here with the november interview date (no idea on time though).
The document checklist confuses me on which background documents to POST and which to take with me to the INTERVIEW.
Or do we not take any background documents to the interview?
The checklist states to post originals AND copies, but the police certificate columns states 'copy only'. So which is it? Send originals and copies for everything except the police check?
My understanding is....
POST
1) KCC appointment letter (copy)
2) DS-260 confirmation (copy)
3) Scan of passport biographic page (copy)
4) one passport photo (original)
5) Sealed medical report (original) We only receive 1 copy, so we either post it or bring it to the interview.
6) one express post envelope
7) educational/work certificates (original AND copy as the checklist states???)
8) birth certificate (original AND copy as the checklist states???)
9) marriage/termination/court/military (original AND copy as the checklist states???)
10) police certificates (ONLY copy as the checklist states???)
BRING TO INTERVIEW
1) KCC appointment letter (copy)
2) DS-260 confirmation (copy)
3) passport (original)
4) one passport photo (original)
5) NO MEDICAL REPORT
6) NO EXPRESS POST ENVELOPE
7) NO educational/work certificates (or do we bring the original here and only post a copy?)
8) NO birth certificate (or do we bring the original here and only post a copy?)
9) NO marriage/termination/court/military (or do we bring the original here and only post a copy?)
10) police certificates (original) do we bring the original here? or were we to post both the original & copy even though the checklist states 'copy only'?

I am worried about this. I have sent multiple emails to the sydney consulate and am going to ring them again tomorrow (albeit on that 1300 number that isn’t direct to the consulate) and ask for an update. I think it is helpful if many of us try to call to make the issue known! Is anyone else worried about this 30 day request and sending original documents to the Sydney consulate?
