As long as you are going on the day scheduled - you can go early...

Here is my experience:

FP scheduled at 11 a.m. on 4/12/02
Arrived INS @ Newark: 10 a.m.
Filled form and inside at 10:30 a.m.
Some 30 folks ahead of me.
Done by 11:45 a.m.
No one in the queue around 12 noon when we got out

Bottom line: I could have gone early and waiting time depends on the queue - it\'s FIFO

It was nothing, really. Here\'s a short description of the day...
I went there around 1:45pm although my appointment was for 3pm. There was a notice on the board that said "Please don\'t arrive earlier than 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment." But I found it rather silly -- I mean, what\'s the point in posting such a notice at the door?? It would have made more sense had they included that message on teh fingerprint notice that was sent to us.
Anyhow, I went right in and the guy at the door asked me to show my notice. He didn\'t question my early arrival. Just gave me a form to fill out -- name, address, A# (you will find this on your notice) etc. Then, stood in line and took a token from another guy who checked my ID, the form that I\'d just filled out and the palms of my hand -- just to make sure they are clean for the fingerprinting procedure.
Sat at the waiting area until my number was called out. Was escorted to the computers where my prints were taken. That\'s all there is to it.

I went by car to Newark INS office from Edison. Missed the commerce street (between Market street and Raymond Blvd) and went 3-4 miles farther and came back and parked my car at the backside of this building (24 commerce street).
The person at the reception (?!) gave a form to fill up after looking at the FP notice. Filled out the form and stood in a line (FP only)...another person gave a token after verifying the filled out form and a photo ID (Passport)...Waited for few minutes and the person who took my FP called my number and took me to a FP machine (computerized) and took the FP...called for QA...QA verified the FP captured on the machine (computer) and approved...and thats it.

Observation:
There are about 8 to 10 computerized FP stations and 2 to 4 manual FP stations. Whether you go to manual or computerized depends on who (technician) calls your number. I guess one technician is assigned to one FP station (or machine or whatever). One technician normally calls two numbers at a time.

 at last i got my FP notice after like what trying for 4 years....
 
FP done today at 12:30 Pm for both me and my wife

It was computerised for both of us. we had our appointment at 12:00 Pm. We got in at 11:45. In an hour
the entire process was done for both of us.

Can someone tell me the list of documents i should carry for fingerprinting....

Can someone give me the list of documents i should carry while going for finger printing. I am having my FP scheduled tomorrow.

Still no FP notice!

RD Nov 20 2001!!!!

Spouse FP completed in April. I have still not received my notice and VSC will only say that these things can take 360-540 days to process! If my FP is delayed 3-4 months, does that mean 485 approval is automatically delayed 3-4 months also??

Am at my wits end!..
 
Not so

Several July filers did their FP just prior to getting their approval. A lot of people on this board have advised that there is no direct link between FP date and the approval date. The adjudications go on at their own pace. Since VSC is processing August cases (someone posted this apparently after hearing from an IIO), you have at least two more months before they start with November. So don\'t worry.
