I am currently finishing up my last year of my doctorate. My I-20 will be running out soon as a result. I want to stay on and get an H-1, and am going to be interviewing for a job as a psychologist.

My question is: how do I approach the sponsorship question? During the interview? Only after I get a job offer? When do I ask or tell my interviewer about the need for sponsorship?

Please help!

------------ why not to let them know your immigration status when you send the resume? so that they know your immigration status and know the info in advance and at the time of interview they can ask what they need to do with your immigration status if they hire you.

Only after I get a job offer?

When do I ask or tell my interviewer about the need for sponsorship?

it doesn't help that you hide you need H1 sponsor. You have to tell them sooner or later. Just tell them at interview. Usually HR person is involved in your interview, and tell them about H1 sponser.

I would say tell them when you apply. No point in wasting your time interviewing with a company that does not sponsor H1.

Be open with the person who will conduct your interview. And tell him about H1 sponser. Do not waste your time with the company who doen't sponser H1 visa.
