Name Check

You can't really trust what you are being told over the phone.
I have heard dozens of different versions about my name check, fingerprint status, DO schedule and when to expect IL.
These days namecheck is usually complete within 30 days, maximum 90 days.
Give them a bit more time.

Glad to read that I am not the only one thinking that. I have gotten so many different versions for second level IOs - it is not even funny anymore....some of the versions:
1. everything is in order - file will be fwded to DO any day now
2. FBI hasn't sent any FP info
3. background check hasn't happened
4. You are within the timeframe - so we can't really tell you anything....

Well, let me share my versions from 2nd level IO and FBI.
I started calling them about 1,5 months after I had my 1st FP done, yellow letter received and hasn't been put in the Q for interview for some reason:

FBI: 1st FP were readable and results sent back to USCIS.

USCIS: everything looks great you should be receiving IL soon, btw have you ever been convicted of any crime? if no, then you should be fine

USCIS: Case received and pending - that's all the info there is there

USCIS: I don't know why you are not in Q, probably too soon, call in about 1-2 months for update. Background check on applicants continues even after they naturalize.

USCIS: No, you are not in the Q, your PD is in March and it's only end of June! Call in 6 months.

USCIS: No, you are not in the Q, you are asking why other people get IL much faster than you? Well, they are just luckier than you. We sent you a letter in March, you will hear from us again when your PD becomes current.

USCIS: Let me see, no you are no in the Q. Why? Seems like there is a problem with your FPs. Just wait to hear from us about your next steps. No, I can't open a service request, just wait.

WTF??? After 3 months of calling and hearing everything is fine?

FBI: Oh yes, your FPs were not readable and therefore rejected.

Infopass: US citizenship is a priviledge. Yes, your FPs were rejected, we can't do anything about this, because your case is with NBC. Write them a letter. No, you should not be expecting 2nd FP letter right after your 1st rejected finger prints, we process I-751 and N400 differently and name checks, backgroung checks, FP checks are done differently.

USCIS 1st level: Opened a service request with NBC and sent a letter to their postal address as a back-up.

USCIS: My written letter was completery ignored, hovewer got a response to my service request in about 2-3 weeks. Turned out I never received 2nd FP letter from April and therefore my case was suspended. They mailed me a copy of missed (never sent, lost by USPS, misplaced whatever) FP and told me to reschedule appoinment.

After all that how can one not love them dearly?

Yes, while the level of service has improved overall, we still get different answers and date estimates. I say just follow the processing times on the USCIS web site and you should be fine. Don't forget that the processing times on the web site, when posted, are exactly 1.5 months behind. I say go with the official statistics rather than the statistics on this board because if you want to have anything done with USCIS, you have to spit their own rules back at them.

If money is not a problem, one should file 2 N400 to enhance
the chance of at least one get thru smoothly

You couldn't have said better.

USCIS should have a promo: send 2 N400s get 3d free.

I'm already having nightmares about upcoming late September interview.

I wonder if they secretly come here and laugh at our questions and nervous feelings about the whole process hahahaaaa. I know, not funny.

Did they really say this??? Do they also anticipate child births and do background checks on the anticipated child before it is even conceived?

This is quite possibly the most LUDICROUS thing I've ever heard.

To Mimi1212: A couple of years ago, there was a rumor going around that FBI monitors this and other immigration forums. Don't know if there's any validity to it, though.

It is quite possible. The airlines monitor frequent flyer forums (this is a fact)but they do it to improve airline performance and not for law enforcement reasons.

Yes, I was told that USCIS runs multiple checks on applicants and those checks will continue after naturalization.

My favorite answer though is that's simply my bad luck, that's why I wasn't in the Q. None of them bothered to check the notes on my case status to see that FPs were rejected - that requires extra mouse or keyboard click.

Also, couple of weeks ago when I was asking to be tranferred to 2nd level IO, 1st level lady told me she can only do it when her computer tells her to do so! :D

I have to slightly disagree with you, this forum statistics reflect the processing time more accurately than USCIS web-site. If you are not within the same time frame as the others, plus-minus couple of weeks, it means you fell of the track and smth is wrong.

If I didn't know that people from my DO are getting IL within 2-3 months after PD, I would still be waiting for months as per USCIS processing times just to find out that my case was considered abandoned and denied when my time would come.
Just because I never got 2nd FP letter and it took me 2 months of phone calls before somebody finally looked at the notes on my file.
