N-600 Application Filed - Can I Register to Vote?

Yup, I interpreted his post in a light-hearted manner, as well as took into consideration any cultural differences in humor (seeing as this is an immigrant portal forum!!!)... but got the jist of the message that I shouldn't hold my breath for a response. So I def gave Al the benefit of the doubt, plus being crazy is not so bad.

Friends,

Nothing offends me, life is too short to be offended by insignificant things. I am a Jew made of steel, more like Jon Stewart...

Woo hoo

Thanks for all your help guys. I just got an email from State saying my passport has been processed and in the mail. That was SO MUCH faster than waiting for the n600 with USCIS. All in all, took about 1.5 weeks vs. still waiting for any news or confirmation of application processing at USCIS (they of course cashed my check asap).

Woo hooooo

Congratulations! :) What kind of supporting documents did they ask you for the passport (custody papers?). I hope you hear from USCIS soon and you get your certificate of citizenship soon.

US Passport Application Outline - secondary proof of citizenship

Thanks Huracan,

I applied with the following documentation:

1) Mom's Original Certificate of Naturalization (when I was 15)
2) Certified court papers showing divorce and sole custody by my momma - this one was tough b/c I originally tried submitting copies but they needed court certified docs (when I was 13)
3) Original Certificate from 1982 from when I became a LPR
4) My current green card (overkill)
5) Copy of my California Driver's License
6) Birth Certificate with affidavit/notarized translation from language expert
7) 2 Passport Photos
8) Actual Application Form
9) Check for the app fees

Milestone dates:

Wednesday, Oct 6th 2010 - Applied for passport
Thursday, Oct 21 2010 - Received email notification that passport was sent via expedited service.
Friday, Oct 22nd 2010 - Received passport in mail!

Can't believe it really only took about two weeks and two days for this process. I'll still probably get my certificate of citizenship in 5 or 6 months, haha, but this route was MUCH faster and easier. And I couldn't have done it without the great help/advice from you great folks in the forums. God bless you all.

One advice I didn't follow from the board was I went ahead and registered to vote on Oct 13th as I was 99.9999% sure I was a citizen and by pure coincidence I got my voter card and passport on the same day! Radical. Very happy!

Have a great weekend all,
RicoCA

Hi RicoCA, thanks for your detailed explanation. That might be very useful to other people in your situation. I'm glad when we can make a difference in someone's life in this forum. I know it sounds clichéd but it is true.

So you are good to go in voting and all. That's good. Lot's of propositions in the ballot. I still have to put a lot of work on going over all the propositions and candidates.

Are you still going to apply for N-600? It might be better to do it now that you have all the documents you need.

Just wanted to close the loop on my thread and follow-up.

So I applied for N-600 in October and finally went in and took my oath of allegiance and received my Certificate of Citizenship on Thursday, May 19th (almost a month ago). I think I could have gotten my cert sooner but there was one minor issue with my legal name which was clarified in no time when I verified my legal name by showing USCIS what was on my US Passport.

So overall, it took a total of about 8 months, but totally worth it! =)
