N-400 Question

I am going to apply for US Citizenship. I have a few traffic tickets (like 5 or so). I know that I have to report all this in the N-400. I also know/aware that there is a chance that the officer might reject/deny my citizenship due to it. Question. If the Citizenship is rejected, would my Greencard become invalid as well?

Got my Greencard by employment 5 years ago.

First off, unless your traffic tickets are for DUI/DWI/reckless driving, no one will deny your application. Where did you get this information?

Secondly, there have been plenty of applications where an applicant had a DUI/DWI and was still approved. Don't worry about it too much.

Reckless driving is also a reason for denial???

Most traffic tickets don't count against you, so long as you can prove you paid the fines etc. The issue gets clouded when a ticket involves drugs, alcohol, a fine over $500 or a potential jail sentence of 1yr or longer.

Not unless you have been convicted of an excludable offence, or are caught lying to obtain an immigration benefit.

Misdemeanor reckless driving as a CIMT?

If it results in a conviction, why wouldn't it be? Considering that USCIS puts it in the same category as DUI/DWI, I tend to think that it would have to fall outside of the 5 year good moral character window to make an applicant eligible for naturalization. However, much like everything else, it would depend on the individual IO.

So you are taking away all credit from me and attributing it to luck? Wow!!!

I think he's attributing it to the known fact that NJ state troopers are known for being harda$$es. :)

All jokes aside, I have several friends who have been pulled over and ticketed for going 1-2 miles over the speed limit.

My 22 year old working formula is:-

Streets = Never go beyond speed limit
Highways = Limit+4 if posted limit is 55 and 60. Limit+9 if posted limit is 65 and above.

So far yet to be pulled over for speeding. Only ticket was passenger (my dad) not wearing a seatbelt :)

My friend got ticket while in carpool lane...

In carpool lane the cop said that he was going slow, when he was on 70 on NJ Turnpike. And finally, the cop issued a ticket saying that the window glasses are black. The window glasses(tinted) are what Nissan fitted in it during manufacturing...

You figure it out now...

As long as the window tints are manufacturer-installed, the ticket will be dismissed. However, the cop who gave your friend a ticket is definitely a jackass.

Search the forum for my posts about traffic tickets. You'll find a post describing a cop pulling me over on Long Island, accusing me of being drunk, giving me a ticket for doing 41 in a 30 zone, then taking away my keys and making me stay in my car for 3-4 hours to "sober up". Mind you, I didn't have a drop of liquor in me nor was I doing 41. And then they wonder why people call them pigs...
