My epiphany!

Dear asylees,

As I was reading the forum tonight, something hit me. An epiphany, if you will. The wait for my green card has made me forget about my past. Even though I anxiously await my green card and even complain about how long it takes for approval, I should remember my days of waiting for my asylum to get approved. Receiving asylum saved my life and I know that there are people who are still waiting to get asylum. This makes me want to reevaluate my situation. I am even ashamed of complaining about my green card, so, even though I want and need that green card so dearly, I just want to say that I do remember my days of waiting for asylum approval, I am very grateful for having asylum, and pray for those who await their asylums.

I’ll always keep you in my prayers.

You know, I sure appreciate your thoughtfullness towards people who are still waiting to get their asylum approved. But I don't know about your case but in my case this time of asylum application & approval & waiting for 485 approval, it's almost 12 yrs All together & I'm still waiting for the GC. That sure don't encourage me at all to re-evaluate my situation. All I can think of is it's really terrible.

Ok, 15 years and counting here... and I am not really complaining :D

Have the right to work and make money, the right to travel, the only thing that I lack is the right to vote, and the way I vote wouldn't make a difference anyway...

10 years here. but i do agree with S. i too remember the anxiety of having to wait on the asylum decision, it was terribly scary. i agree that those waiting for asylum are in a worse situation than i am, and i completely empathise.

Asylum is actually a very generous gift from this country and we need to appreciate that rather than to engange in carping everyday.

This is why I might acknowledge America's mistakes but I will always defend it in front of blind haters who see only black in this great country.
