Messed up on name

Hello all. New to posting on here. I thought my journey with USCIS etc had ended after I had my Oath Ceremony, until I realized afterwards that I hadn't spotted a mistake on my Certificate in time...
The name that is printed on my Cert was my First, Middle, Last.
However on the day I went for my interview and signed my pics I just signed my First and Last - I very rarely use my middle name so I automatically just signed it without!
Of course come to realize that it was a very costly and annoying mistake
I've sent off the application to get a new Certificate and got the letter the other day that they'd received it, but didn't tell me much else...
I know it was my own mistake and I'm just very mad at myself!! Have been here for almost 4yrs and thought I was at the end of the process and now this setback that will cost me time in getting a passport, registering to vote or updating my Social Security info...
I was wondering if anyone else had ended up in the same boat and how long it took to get your new Certificate?

Thanks,
P.

So you applied for a Certificate replacement and payed the required fee because your certificate shows middle name??

Correct.

On the letter I got it says 'Fee Waived' so not sure whether they charged me or not, I'll have to check....

When I initially called up USCIS to ask about how to fix the situation, in literature we were given it says the names on the pics and certain must be the same. I know I messed up and it's a very frustrating mistake to make - I used my middle name on the application cause there was boxes for it and such so I got used to that...but when it came to signing I just didn't think of it! :( ......

Well when I called them up they said I would have to go to my local office to speak to an Immigration Officer.

So back to the same office I had my final interview in! It wouldn't have been so bad if the officer I'd got wasn't so rude. I explained what happened taking full responsibility for it...wasn't USCIS fault, purely mine...but the way they reacted you'd think I'd forged my Green Card or something! They did a lot of heavy sighing and said how it my mistake etc. Then said a couple of times "I don't want to tell you" (complete with the deep sighing!). I held my tongue and stayed polite. I really felt like saying, you know Sir with all due respect you DO know how to help me fix it, it's your job so instead of the judgmental sighs, could you please just tell me how to fix it?!
I was just ticked at their conduct and behavior.

So then they gave me the form to fill in and a sheet showing me where to send it and they made a point of telling me how much it was going to cost me and circled it!

So, now I've sent it off and hoping that it doesn't take forever to get it back.....I screwed up and just want it to be fixed so I can be done.....

:eek:Dude,

Let me understand this conundrum which you have, USCIS printed your middle name on your naturalization certificate, which makes you to foam at the mouth with anger? What a luxury to be able to afford buy horse poop on a golden plate.

You are responsible for this crap which should have been fixed on the day of the oath ceremony as opposed to jumping up and down celebrating without paying attention to the middile name which I am certain your parents gave you for a good reason. You don't have any crisis at all, what you have is too much time on your hands and less to do.. If I were you, I would spend 15 minutes pooping to relieve stress causes by less critical things presenting themselves as life and death situation...

AS,

Thanks for your comment.

As I said in my post, I know it was my fault, I was not angry at USCIS. I was angry at myself.

Thank you but I can do without the sarcastic and less than helpful comments.

All I wanted to know was if anyone else had ended up in the position as I and how long it took to get their new Certificates....I don't need a lecture, thanks.

Nothing personal, just a small fun. Just wait for USCIS to do their work, no need to worry and stress about it. Stress shorten your life by a whole lot of years, since you are not in any danger to lose your citizenship and be deported, why not enjoy life and please your wife daily by flowers, massages and the ultimate massage? :)

I would recommend that you leave this issue for couple of weeks and focus on being happy, this is just a small crappy issue which time will take care of. USCIS official get annoyed by people like you who make such mistakes, they loathe anyone who forces them to do double work, so just be glad someone is looking to correct this issue, if it take 6 weeks or 6 months, do you need your citizenship certificate anytime soon? I bet you don't, so what this stress about? Poconos has nice special, take wife there and please your soul... Immigration matters are silly issues which only the nutty people fret over, I don't care one bit what happens, but I want to know the outcome so that I can evaluate all my options, being stressed is the least of my concerns. If I am stressed, I might be forced to take a blue pill to perform the night shift at home, which isn't ideal for my age, I need to still be a stud who can shoot omega 3 shots...:D

Thanks AS,

This response would probably have been a little better accepted if it wasn't for your attitude right off the bat at me...

Plus I'm not a man....it's usually not a good idea to judge people right away.

Polawisk, did your full name on GC include the middle name? If so, you would have to fill out the name change form at interview just to get rid of middle name. If you did not do it, then the USCIS was in its right to issue the certificate with the full name.

GC had my middle initial...
Again, I'm not saying USCIS was not right...I messed up...I know I did. I'm not mad at USCIS... I've re-applied and made sure to keep the names consistent on everything....I just wanted to know if anyone else had experienced this and how long it took to get their new Cert.

So if your birth certificate has middle name and your naturalization certificate shows middle name, what's the issue?

The issue is that the day I went for my interview and they had me sign my pictures, I signed without my middle name....with just my "regular" name.....
Thus the certificate had my F,M,L names....
Pic's had only F and L....
In the literature it said that pic's name and cert name must match....so I had to re-apply for new cert..
I don't really remember anything regarding my Birth Cert to have caused any issues....
It was basically cause of how I signed the pics...

My certificate has FML names..Interview and oath was done on same day. When i was called to sign my certificate i ask the Officer how must i sign. She told me and even showed me one of my signatures i had done earlier..ie with my first and last names only. i guess there was no problem with my signature on my certificate because i applied for passport and received it a few days ago along with my certificate.

Let me ask you if you did this:
a) Birth Certificate - First Name, Middle Initial, Last Name
b) SSN card - First Name, Middle Initial, Last Name
c) Driver License - First Name, Middle Initial, Last Name
d) Green Card - First Name, Middle Initial, Last Name
f) Citizenship Application (including pic) - First Name, Middle Initial, Last Name
g) Other stuff (Bank, etc) - First Name, Middle Initial, Last Name

Correct?

Citizenship Certificate - First Name, Middle Name, Last Name
Now, you want to change to First Name, Last Name?
Why do you want to change? It won't affect anything if you keep first name, middle name, and last name.

I guess some people are getting different responses. When I called up the USCIS office they told me I needed to go back to my local office. This kinda surprised me cause I thought they'd be able to give me a yay/nay answer rather than having to send me back to the office.
Maybe it was just my luck that I got a very narky officer that day that came across as anything but helpful and just seemed to take more 'pleasure' in making me feel worse for the mistake I'd made.

I read different places where some people just signed with their F and L and got their passports....but I wanted to be safe than sorry....maybe I was stupid!

The naturalization certificate will show the name as it apprears on the birth certificate. It does not matter what you signed or not. If you want to not use your middle name anymore, then you should have asked for a legal name change.
I believe the only way you can get the middle name removed from the naturalization certificate if by getting your name legally changed. Gurus, am I wrong?

It wasn't so much a case of 'not wanting' to use my middle name...I realize it's going to be used on official documents etc. I'm just not used to signing it "as regularly" and messed up when I signed the pics...if I'd just remembered and signed with the F,M,L all would've been fine....and now I wouldn't be asking...

No, I'm not going to lose my citizenship or get deported...just frustrating that I make an error like that and it's just costing me more time re getting a passport etc....That's all....

The signature that appears on your picture should match what's on certificate, but if your middle name is missing on picture signature it doesn't invalidate the certificate. If you had a totally different name on picture signature, then you may have had an issue, but all you are missing is middle name on picture signature. I guess you didn't sign the actual certificate since you sent it back?
What you're describing is a non issue, but since you already sent it back there's nothing you can do now but wait. It may take a few weeks to receive your corrected certificate. Some have signed picture signature with eligible signature..but it doesn't invalidate the certificate.

The OP is referring to signature on picture, not on the certificate itself.
