Value of EAD ? Questions
This is probably the wrong place to post EAD questions but I am doing it anyway. Please post your responses as replies to this post and not as a reply to the regular post.
I am also raising these questions in terms of lay-off given the economic scenario.
1. If one is laid-off (before or after 180 days) and joins a new job, what needs to be done to the GC process? Any amendments. If any job based RFE, what should be the response?
2. For those who used the company lawyer, what needs to be done for G-28 for contacting INS?
3. If the new job requires a move to a different address, what needs to be done? How to address it with INS?
4. If a new employer is found, is it better to file a H-1 transfer or work with EAD? (EAD is valid for a year. Hence, how will the renewal work if GC takes longer?)
5. Can we be self-employed with EAD? (If one can find own contract, that will save some commissions) How will the renewal work if GC is delayed?
6. If we incorporate with EAD (self-employment), can we continue our GC as filed by self-owned company? Any issues?
Generally, I would see two tracks if laid-off with EAD. Work for a new company or start own (if we can). Post your responses addressing each one with resolutions for any issues.

Usually lay-off before 180 days is risky for the professional, but a lot depends on what your current company is going to do with that information. Weather they specifically intimate INS or not - and the same with you company lawyer. Some answers are as follows.
We can be self employed / do business / do another job - on EAD as long as we work full time for the petitioning employer ( atleast as per his terms).
You can incorporate a company - do not know if you can work for it.

Here is a brief explanation of FP experience for just in case if this is of any help to you folks.
It took me around 15 minutes for entire process. My FP was scheduled at 1:00 PM on 5/11 and I reached the INS center around 12:50. There was just 1 more person at Office at that time.
While entering office a person checked the notice for FP and asked us to fill a form. It took us around 5-7 minutes to fill that form which was quite basic in terms of just asking your personal details. We filled the form and retuned it to an officer at desk. Officer cross checked few details with passport and I-94 and asked another person to escort us to the FP machine. It probably took around 5 minutes to give the FP and then we were handed the form that we filled as a matter of receipt.
Thats it folks and we were all set.
