Leaving for good.

I have a valid H-1B visa now. If I'm leaving the country for good after resigning my job. Do I've to fly out of USA the next day? Is it illegal to stay couple of days after you resign?
 
Technically, you'll be out of status as soon as you quit, but it won't be serious problem if stay after that is not long.
 
I'm planning to move to Canada. I live in Texas and hoping to drive all the way. My friend who is on the way, wanted me to stop by his place for couple of days. So I wanted to know if my stay would be deemed illegal? I'm planning to come back to work in USA on H-1B after an year.

-------if you have Valid I-94 then stay is not llegal
