Just made my first infopass appointment...any words of wisdom?

You can see the thread below ( I think) about my son's N600 and me not really understanding the letters I got from uscis , although it seems to indicate the COC is approved ( see my related thread). So I hope to get a nice immigration officer Monday morning (9:00, September 17) who will really help me.

When I made the appointment I used my name, I didn't put on there my son's a-number or n600 case number since I didn't want to confuse anything since the appointment is in my name....do you think that will be ok? Can I explain all of that?

I have no idea what to expect. Any thoughts?

2 words of wisdom: Don't go.

Save your time and theirs. There is no reason for Infopass yet. Everything is proceeding smoothly and normally.

Maybe. They can be very uncooperative if you're pressing them about your case when it's already progressing normally.

I sure hope not. I'm not trying to make anyone mad, I just want them to tell me if they actually have the signed photos and green card I sent last Wednesday. I hope the Immigration officer will be understanding and nice, I'm not trying to rush him or anything like that. Just don't understand what they are asking me to do since I already mailed then the signed photos song green card.

On the other forum, I suggested you call them Monday. Your packet to them and their letter to you probably crossed paths. A phone call could probably have sorted it... if it doesn't sort itself.

IMO you're freaking out here, over nothing.

Agreed. I'm freaking out. Can't help it. Seems kinda random that they mailed out the 2nd letter the day after my envelope supposedly arrived there. That can't me a total coincidence can it. By the way when you call the uscis customer service line, they don't connect you with someone at the local office do they? So isn't infopass the only way to talk to someone there? Or am I mistaken.

It's CIS! They get buttloads of post, so it takes a while for them to sort through it and redirect it. The fact that they sent you the second letter a day after they received your first letter makes it amply clear (TO ME, but obviously not you) that they missed your letter. Feel free to go and check.

If you call the number, you won't get the office where you sent GC and photos. You can find the local office's number here probably: http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/88027.pdf

Ask them if they received the package. If you call the 800 number, when you get an agent finally, you can claim something like you sent an N400 application 2 months ago but haven't heard anything, and that your cheque hasn't been cashed. They'll then escalate your call to an actual IO who can look stuff up for you based on your details.

You can, and this is a routine, non-time-sensitive matter. It's not like your son loses his eligibility at the end of the month or anything.

Considering how slowly USCIS works, absolutely a coincidence.

By doing the infopass it makes me at least feel like I'm doing something except waiting on the mailman every day. My Mom has uterine cancer so I know the feeling of just sitting and not being able to help. Honestly, it won't hurt anything if I do the infopass will it?

If you go there and don't get anything out of it (apart from the satisfaction of doing something), it won't affect the N600 process negatively.

Thanks. I'm really nervous. I'm gonna be very nice and I hope and pray they are. Pray that it will be someone who is willing to take a moment from their day to help me.

On another note, the first letter said "you will be notified under separate notice regarding decision of your application". Then about 6 days later comes the 2nd letter which starts out "the united states citizenship and immigration service has prepared a certificate of citizenship for you".

Could this 2nd letter be the "separate notice" mentioned on the 1st letter?

Next, do you think this means he is already updated in the uscis computers or not yet?

You're only hurting yourself by spending the time to drive 4 hours and unnecessarily worrying over something that has been progressing quickly with no cause for concern. People make themselves physically ill by worrying like you do. Your son is a US citizen who already has a US passport. So what if his CoC even takes a year? If he needed to prove citizenship tomorrow he can already prove it. Sit back, relax, and do nothing about this CoC case for another month unless USCIS sends something requiring you to take action (and their latest letter does not require action because you already sent what they wanted). Most likely, if you do nothing about it for the next 30 days, you will see either the CoC arrive in the mail or a notice to go and pick it up.

Roughly how long will the infopass appointment last? Should I be friendly, as I usually am, or just matter of fact and all business?

For a second a thought I had gone back to posts made by Marusia o.O

I'm sorry guys, I really am. Between my moms cancer and everything I've let myself get really anxious about taking care of this coc. I apologize if I've been redundant and stuff on the posts about this, just helps to have some people to talk to about it who have been through similar processes before. I have really appreciated your wisdom, it has seriously helped.

I phone call would help nothing. USCIS tier 1 or 2 cannot do anything with N-600 cases once transfered to local office. Not to mention you cannot get updates online. My case online shows non-existent, if I call them it would say something similar yet case is already COC is already accepted.

So does this mean that instead of driving 4 hours to the Infopass, you're going to stop worrying about this and do something more relaxing on Monday?

I'm gonna keep the appointment. I'm driving up tonight to spend the night with a relative in Louisville. I have never had an infopass meeting. Literally no idea what to expect. Are the meetings usually in office rooms with a desk etc., is it appropriate for me to shake hands and say nice to meet you?
