It is very difficult to wait

well... I sent a letter via mail with tracking number and it should have arrived yesterday... I will wait a response from them within 2 weeks ... if not I will call them then drive the 4 hours to their office and ask them about my case...

however my case is different than yours as I have recommended approval in hand meaning that the IO made the decision but I'm only waiting for the FBI name check...

maybe they got my FBI name check and they were slow in attaching it to my case and issueing the final approval... or I'm suspecting that there is a mistake with my last name cause when I called FBI last week they have my name with a different last name.. "they considered name of my great great grandpa as my last name" while in the asylum application it is with only my grandpa name... I expected that there would be such a mistake... but.....

does anyone know if they use the last name in sorting out papers and name checks or they use the case number or A#

Nothing!!!

I continue to wait I haven't received a word from the AO. what's going on? who knows? I sent them two letters again, nothing. I continue to wait. I called and the receptionist asked to send another letter. I will keep you posted If something happens. Also I applied for EAD last week and I just received the mail (acknowledgment notice) from the USCIS stating that my ead application is now pending and I hope by mid-July the new ead will be in hands.

Living in a limbo is very tough. We don't even know if we are rejected or approved.

Did u get any reply from USCIS yet?

For my case, it's one month and I haven't received any update to the inquiry I made a month ago through mail. I managed to get the telephone number to the office... I called, and they told me to send a fax and include my telephone number. I did that, but they didn't get back to me. I called again yesterday and told them about the story. They checked and said a decision has not yet been reached about my case as the officer is away (for training). That they would assign another officer to handle my case. That's it. Waiting...

Didn't expect that they will reply but they did, i received a letter this morning from them

"Service records indicate your alias is still pending" that was the answer :(

u cant demand approval, you are just going around and around meaning you are asking same questions again and again though answered.. if you want to know if your case is approved or refered to IJ, you got to wait like others.

if you don't know whats going on, write an status inquiry letter to asylum office and they will tell you it's pending backround check or more time is needed to study your case. that's how it works man. if and but words won't work. immigration process takes long unless you marry a US citizen.
i know some whose asylum case took 4 years. those from middle east or pakistan takes bit long too.

The links below are one of Jonny1's threads before his brother got the recommened approval. You will see how people change their way of replying to threads after they get approved. Please compare his old threads to his recent reply to my thread and you will see a big difference. In fact he could not even wait for 21 days.

I copied and pasted what Jonny1 said on 12/24/07 and please compare it to his latest reply to my thread

"my bro applied asylum in dec 04/ 2007 and after the interview that day, the AO told him his decision would be mailed and so far today is dec 24, 2007 and he hasn't received his decision by mail yet. it has been over 21 says. how long more it's gonna take?few more days, weeks, months?
it's fraustating cos we wanna know yes or no mail from AO office.the interview took place at asylum office in Chicago.
what you think we should do? anyway we can check the status by phone?
thanks

I aslo copied and pasted what Jonny1 said on 1/24/08 and please compare it to his latest reply to my thread
"but there is no reason to make someone wait for more then 2 weeks, 98% asylum seeker get thier decision in 2 weeks and very few made to wait long is an reasonable"

This was taken from this thread http://forums.immigration.com/showthread.php?t=271077

assylum, that's quite interesting analysis. It's understandable that Jonny1 has been posting on this forum several times and took it for granted that everyone's familiar with application procedure, waiting etc. He may have felt he's repeating himself, but I do agree he was a bit 'unfriendly' given that he too was in the same situation at one point or another. Take it easy.

Jonny1,
Who kept asking the same questions again and again? You should have checked your old threads before you sent your reply.
BTW, don't try to edit your old threads because there is an edit timestamp.

For those who are still waiting for months including me, I think we have more patience than Jonny1 because Jonny1 started complaining 2 weeks after the interview. Just read his old threads. Also look at the edit timestamp for his threads to make sure he did not edit his threads.

to jonny1 and assylum
i request any of u to please help me by providing the following information with reference(becoz it will make us (who are waiting in the process) a good hope )
"but there is no reason to make someone wait for more then 2 weeks, 98% asylum seeker get thier decision in 2 weeks "
your reply with the reference is highly appreciable.
thanks

If it was a denial, you would have got the decision within 2 weeks. The reason you have not got the decision would be more likely attributed to the fact that your background check takes longer. This means you have been worried too much. I have the feeling you will get good news. So calm down pls.

I was interviewed on Feb 12, 2008. Then no news came in after 2 weeks. My lawyer said: "it is the indication of an approval rather than a denial". I waited for more than 2 months and got the approval letter on Apr 22, 2008. The date of aprroval was backed on Feb 15, 2008.

In my case, the officer was not nice at all. He is an immigrant with a horrible accent and his attitude is also horrible. He did not let me explain my situation thoroughly. He stopped me right in the middle of my answer and said: "you dont have to say what you wrote in your statement". The whole interview was short and disrupted. I was worried but I did the best for my application so I just knew to wait.

Even I had a lawyer, I completed the whole application and gathered all information by myself. The lawyer was just there with me for the interview and had a supporting statement before the officer ended the interview. My lawyer said that he had never met the asylum officer who interviewed me and had never met anyone like this officer. But I got it finally.

I have the feeling that every lawyer is just too busy. As thus, we cannot trust everything they do, especially when we decided to go with the asylum thing. It is a painful and overwhelming process. We need to be pro-active during the application process and always ask to review the final package before it goes out.

I totally understand your pain that you can't see your parents but you can always meet them in another safe country if you can afford it.

For my case, I won't be able to go back to my country for good even if I have GC through something else. My country authority might arrest me at the airport and that is why I asked for a protection from the US government. I guess that was why I was interviewed by 2 officers and was asked for a second interview. My lawyer said that it will be a shocking news if they decline those kind of strong cases.

Well you are in better situation if you can visit your parents without fear of an arrest.
In my situation, I am a religious activist and my name is in the list in my country and the government authority is looking for me in my country and I guess I won't be able to see my country for good. I will have to ask my parents to travel to another country so that I can see them. I know that this is tough but there is nothing I can do about it.
