Hi,

If i file a DV Lottery program application and a few months later i want to enter the US as a tourist with my tourist visa, Will this be a potential problem? I have been in the US a couple of times before, And i have been saving up money for a trip somewhere in April-June 2011.

Any help will be appreciated.

It was no problem for me. Just ask for a VWP using ESTA and you should be fine to travel there.

Good luck!

there shouldnt be any problem at all. i did enter US last month and my number is current this month.

Hi
I too enter USA last month when my DV was in process. I even forget that I have applied for DV lottery when interviewer asked me about it. There was no problem issuing visa and travelling to USA.
All the best!

I already have a visa, So i don't need any interview. Question is, Do they care that i am in the lottery program when i enter customs in the US? And can they see that i am participating in the lottery program?

P.S
I see a lot of people with the following in their signature :

CN:2011AS00013XXX (Canada)
Oct 5 2009: DV Lottery Entered
May 19 2010: NL1 Received
June 14 2010: Forms sent to KCC
June 17 2010: USPS confirms the delivery
July 06 2010: KCC confirms the receipt of documents
CP: Nepal

I assume this has to do something with the lottery program and the documents sent to the USAGC, But i did not fill in the documents myself but used usafis.org i payed a few $$ and they take care of it for me. Was this a bad idea (besides the money waste) ? I mean they did submit the application and i got my confirmation number for lasts year lottery but i did not win of course. Can i learn anything from just looking at that number? Like what are my odds of wining or anything like that? And what's those stuff written in the signature and why do people share that info?

Thanks.

A winning notification for DV lottery will probably disqualify you from entering US on B-1/B-2 visa. Submitting forms to KCC will definitely do that except very special cases.

Well if i win the lottery i won't be needing the visa no more and will just wait for my GC to arrive. By submitting the forms to the KCC you mean once a person actually won the lottery?

Yes, Vadim so all the discussion that you see on the forum is for people who already won the lottery, not the ones that applied only. I used to apply every year and I would travel back and fourth my home country all the time, submiting an application does not deny you a visa, at least it never denied my F1 visa.

Thanks. Just out of curiosity i see you won the lottery, How long were you submitting up until you actually won?

You can travel in and out when you enter the lottery....you haven't won an apllication for a GC yet....so nothing going on there.

Nobody other then the people working in the department where the lottery is worked on, could tell you who get which information and I even doubt they know what an other agency or customs can see in their computer.

If you get questions at the airport on entering the US and they ask if you have an immigration intend, then it is up to you what you answer.

Most people enter for years and never won and still travel in and out of the US....

Lying can be a reason for a denial into the country and if you are telling cutoms you have an intend to immigrate that might be a denial too unless you have a visa that gives you the opportunity to immigrate...

So basically it is kind of a grey area and you decide what your best answer is...:)
