Is it too late as a 2014 green card eligible (Very Important)

Thanks a lot Sm1smom, So, I should rely on the expidated biometric appointment. I will keep that in mind. So I should give them my reason of needing it quickly. How should I get a letter from my University on this. Its a bit silly to ask these even before the interview. But it is better for me to ask the uni and find ways to get this done. Thank you very much again to Sm1smom.

No, I'm not suggesting you rely on getting an expedited biometric appointment. I wrote earlier on that there's no guarantee it would be granted, so my suggestion would be to actually plan around the possibility of the request being denied and give yourself enough time to receive the appointment notice if you plan on applying for a re-entry permit on your initial visit. To the best of my knowledge, requesting an expedited biometric in order to return to school in your home country might not be seen as a compelling reason by USCIS. Some of the acceptable reasons for expedited processing are:

  • Severe financial need to the company or individual making the request
  • Extreme emergency situation
  • Humanitarian situation
  • Non-profit status of requesting organization in furtherance of the cultural and social interests of the United States Department of Defense or National Interest Situation (Such Request must come from official United States Government entity and state that delay will be detrimental to the US Government)
  • A request to correct an error on the part of USCIS
  • Compelling interest of USCIS

The entry visa successful applicants are issued with is usually good for about 6 months, so you can plan on making your initial visit around when your school will be on vacation.

Well in that case its better not to rely on that. Isn't it. Thank you for the heads up as always. My vacations will be in Sept/ Oct. and 3 moths onward. So, what if I got the interview within next 2 moths, end of the six months will not cover my vacation times. Is there a way to make sure that we can include Sept into this six months. Any way we will be going to US but I would like to know if there is a way of doing this.

If any of this did not happen accordingly can I come back immediately and then go back to US within 6 moths to make sure that I have not abandoned my green card. Is that possible. If you have a better idea please guide me on that as well.

Thanks

Requesting the embassy to not print your visa for a month or two following a successful interview is an option, but I wouldn't recommend that.

Yes, you have the option of briefly coming into the US to activate your LPR status and returning almost immediately. You should be fine with your LPR status if you return to the US within 6 months of leaving. So that is another option to explore aside of applying for a re-entry permit which by the way, carries a filing fee of $360 + $85 biometric fee, a total of $445 per application.

Thank you very much for this valuable piece of advice. I also agree with you on not recommending that. I will ask on that if such thing is normally allowed in local embassy otherwise we will continue with our normal plans :) Thank you a lot
