IO suggested taking InfoPass appt

FP quality and FBI background check are two separate things. When you call the FBI they will tell you if the FP quality was good and if the results have been sent back to USCIS. They won't tell you if FP came up with a criminal match or not.

That's what I had thought. But based on what OP and others are telling, FBI would not even tell you if the FP quality was good. Just that it was sent back (good quality or otherwise)..

Could be it possible if FP is not readable, the USCIS will ask FBI to spend more time on the name check?

I had called the FBI after my GC FP because the ASC person took a very long time to do the prints, and also had me do ink & paper prints in addition to the computer scans. My prints are 'faint' on my hands, since I type a lot for work so the ridges are worn away. When I called the FBI I asked if the prints were legible or whether I would have to do them again. They told me they were legible and the result had been sent back.

For the N400, as soon as I got the FP notice I tried to use my fingertips as little as possible (tried to use the side of my fingers and nails instead for typing), and deluged my hands in Corn Husker's Lotion multiple times a day (which was a tip on another forum from an ASC person) and that seemed to work.

I went for my InfoPass appointment today but didn't get any good answer. IO told me to wait for IL. They said every thing is ok not to worry. When I asked if they can tell me if my background check was clear and she said we can't talk about this.
So in the end I got the same information which I am getting over the phone.

Pretty frustrating - isn't it -what is the point of being able to have an appt. is they are pretty much going to parrot off what CSRs on phone may tell......

oh well... let's hope for the best.

I beleive that overal infopass is more useful and informative than 1-800-375-5183 but don't count upon it to be so in all individual cases

A couple of interesting observations - in Washington DC USCIS District Office - the security is lax and anyone can walk in and request a case status inquiry..

I almost made it to the 2nd floor Interview Waiting room, but was stopped and was re-directed to the regular info-pass crowd..

After an hour of waiting I was called and my N-400 case was looked up by a polite and cool IO. He basically told me to go home and wait for my Interview Appointment letter. He was amazed that after filing only a month ago - I was already in a 'pending scheduling' status.. but he did not do a single thing to help me, like most IOs - he was there not to help, but to inform... =)

You are good, you are real close, son =)

You went for an Infopass to inquire about interview letter eventhough you only applied a little over 2 months ago and did a FP walk in?
You'll need to be more patient and wait like everyone else. Tying up USCIS resources by going for an Infopass so early in the process is a waste of time.

Thanks Bob, you saved me the effort of typing the exact same thoughts.

I recall during my Green Card-related info-pass appointment about 6 years ago, while I was waiting for my number to be called - I was walking around the building and decided to wait in a more quiet area on the 2nd floor of the old Arlington, Virginia INS office building.

After waiting for about 5 minutes - it was around 3pm - An IO walked out of the door in the Citizenship interview section and announced that he will now see anybody who wants to be interviewed...

I thought that was curious and unusual. Today - it actually makes sense - on the one hand there are people waiting for months to be interviewed. On the other hand - there are IO who are done with all their interview appointments by 3pm, wondering what to do with their time..

For those who want to patiently wait - I say - God Bless you! For those who don't want to wait - I would encourage people to share with us their infopass and walk-in experiences..
