interview experience - mentioned citation and mistake on the form

In my interview, when the IO was going over questions, he asked the question about citation and arrests. I had said 'No' on the form, but I declared during interview that I am sorry, I made a mistake and I did not know that a traffic ticket is technically a 'citation' and that I had a ticket in 2001. I had taken the details and court disposition about paying off the fine - 80$ and asked the IO if he wanted to see it. He said No, that is not necessary, and he said he cares only if there was an arrest and that is it. I don't think he even bothered to change my answer to yes. Rest of the interview went well and at the end I got the result sheet - N652 which said 'congratulations, your application is being recommended for approval'. He told me that I will receive the oath letter in mail.

Now, that I have not gotten the oath letter, I think my mind is playing games and thinking that my admission about the mistake (in filling the form) will it be an issue?

By the way, the N652 mentions ISO and not IO - does this mean he was an Immigration Senior Officer or something (like a supervisor) and not an Immigration Officer? Just curious.

You have been approved and got the oath letter so no need to worry about citation admission at this point.

ISO = Immigration Service Officer. It's another way of saying IO. There are different ranks within ISO..like senior or junior ISO.

Thanks Bobsmyth

Sorry, if I was not clear in my post, but I have not gotten the oath letter. That is the main concern I have. Can they change the disposition from approved to something else after the interview?

Thanks.

I meant to say you received approved N-652 and therefore you have no worries. If the citation was an issue, you would not have received recommended for approval on N-652.

I did exactly what you did and IO said the exact same thing. he did not even bother to change the answer. My oath ceremony is tomorrow. End of the road for me. Almost.

;):cool::o

N-652 is recommended for approval, it is is not a final approval. When OP receives an oath letter, then you can conculde that this is done...

No worries

I am in the process of applying for citizenship. I have two speeding tickets. My lawyer said I don't need to mention them on the application unless there was an arrest or criminal charges. He said we can disclose them at the interview time.

Correct, but my point is that if citation was an issue the IO would have not provided "recommended for approval".

I am not sure which specialty lawyer you are using...but USCIS N-400 application guidance is very clear: you have to disclose all citations (tickets, etc). Although the risk is low, USCIS can request and obtain driver records. Remember, you will be under oath during interview and I were you I would not lie to USCIS Officer (even disclose them during the interview by correcting N-400 application).

By the way, if lawyer is so sure what he/she advises you and ask him/her to provide you with a written document with the reference to regulation upon which he/she concluded that you do not need to disclose the traffic tickets.

I have nothing to add here....WBH said it well: N-400 question 16 part D is clear.

I thinnk many people confuse (including myself initially) with the requirement to disclose the traffic tickets/citations with the document support requirements from N-400 instructions which stipulates support document requirements for the disclosed tickets/citations...

hi
i am going to be inerviewed,
my question is that i got arrested in underage liquor buyying, but i was tourist at that time.i became PR after 2yr.do i need to mention that at my interview.
all suggestion will be appreciated.thanks in advance

I want to know, is that allright or USCIS, if I write ROUGH dates instead of EXACT date of my citation. For those tickets I have proof of two, that I already took my defensive classes and proof of buying defensive driving class for third one. Those tickets were only for; 1. Illegal U turn, 2. Not able to stop completely on red light, while making right turn. 3. Speeding, driving 86 on 60 limit zone.
Please, tell me. I want to apply for my Citizenship ASAP.
Thanks,
Shaam

you have to disclose it....Question 16 part D of N-400 on citations/arrests/detentions does not limit it to specific time...again, it is a safer to disclose and explain instead of USCIS finds out about this....I assume you have disclosed this in your I-485 (adjustment of status) application..If you did not disclose it before, consult with attorney.
