Visited INS office ... but NO NUMBER AVAILABLE !?

I received the approval notices directly from the CSC today (5/12/2004).
U.S. Department of Justice, INS, 1887 Monterey Road, San Jose, CA 95112
Monday: 07:30am - 11:00am
Tuesday: 07:30am - 11:00am
Wednesday: 07:30am - 11:00am
Thursday: 07:30am - 11:00am
Yesterday (5/13/2004), I visited the USCIS San Jose district office for I-551 passport stamp.
I reached there at 10:15am and I could go into the building from the appointment line without waiting outside although there were about ten people in the non-appointment line.
However, when I went to the WINDOW #3 after waiting 20 minutes inside, I was told that NO NUMBER was available yesterday.
We have to visit there again early morning next week so that we get NUMBERs.
We may go on Friday but we have to wait in non-appointment line.

Processing Date and the First Hearing at the Court

It has been a week since my I-485 got approved.
Honestly speaking, I am very happy with my approval.
On the other hand, I know a lot of people who had filed before me have been still waiting, and I'd like to see all of those applicants' approvals as soon as possible.

In my impression, it seems that the CSC wanted to finish adjudicating my case before the first hearing at the court, which was originally scheduled on 5/14/2004, because CSC Director Don Neufeld is one of defendants of our I-485 Litigation.
Through the end of April 2004, the official CSC I-485 processing date was 1/30/2004, and actually according to Project Kashmir, the CSC focused adjudicating JAN 2002 cases.
However, suddenly at the beginning of May 2004, the CSC started adjudicating some FEB 2002 cases but not so many.
On 5/6/2004, USCIS moved the processing date to 3/1/2002, then the CSC approved my case on 5/7/2004.
My I-485's ND is 3/4/2002, but WAC-02-124 corresponds to ND 3/2/2002 which is just one day after the official processing date.
According to Project Kashmir, the CSC has approved only 15% of JAN 2002 cases and 11% of FEB 2002 cases.
I cannot find any strong reason that the CSC had to skip FEB 2002 and move the processing date to MAR 2002 at all.
I am not sure whether the CSC moved the processing date just for my case or not.
I might have been just lucky a little bit.

Anyway, I strongly believe that the CSC and Don Neufeld are under strong pressure for I-485 backlog reduction right now.
However, USCIS may suddenly change its policy in near future without notice.
I recommend everyone to keep putting pressure on the CSC and Don Neufeld by direct e-mail/fax campaigns, and/or through Congressional offices and media, etc.
I am pleased to join those campaigns.
Also, don't forget your contribution to ImmigrationPortal.ORG for our community and your own future.

The current immigration system in the U.S. is almost broken and extremely unfair.
Sometimes, I see someone writing that almost everything in our lives is unfair.
Of course, it might be true.
However, USCIS and the U.S. Government are not God for immigrants.
The government and the federal agency should try to implement Justice and Fairness in the system.
Let's fight against Unjustice of Government until achieving our goal.

I-551 Passport Stamped at Los Angeles office 5/19/2004

I visited INS Los Angeles office with my children to support their I-551 passport stamp at 1pm on 5/19/2004.
Each of my children had an InfoPass appointment of 1:00pm and we reached there just before 1pm.
Most of people with 1pm appointment had already entered in the building, so there was nobody in the line.
We got just one number A418 (Extension Appointment) for two and went to the Window #12 at 1:20pm.
It took almost 30 minutes for two passport stamps.
The officer didn't ask us EADs and APs.
We left there around 2pm.
Their stamps are a little bit diffrent from mine stamped at San Jose office.

Anna Eshoo Town Hall Meeting 5/22/2004 Scott Valley

I attended my representative Anna Eshoo's town hall meeting in Scott Valley yesterday.

I talked with Ms. Patty Kim who was an immigration caseworker at Congresswoman's Palo Alto office, and found that she had known about my approval online when she called me at Sunday (5/10/2004) noon.
(I had guessed that the CSC had informed her because I received her letter written on 5/7/2004.)

Also, I talked directly with Congresswoman before the meeting, and she had already known about my approval and said to me, "Congratulations !!".

After the meeting, I talked with a staff about a donation.
I told that I'd like to offer a donation, but he explained that Congresswoman could not accept it during her campaign.

You deserve it

Kashmir, you were not lucky. You deserve every bit of it --- all what you have done to the immigration community. At least one congresswoman knows about the injustice, which is a great achievement. It's your talent, your perseverance, your determination. Each of us should follow your example. Donate, join the lawsuit, send fax/e-mail and persist.

Folks,

Where to get I-551 stamping? application support center/field office/INS Center?

Can I go to Oakland, CA for I-551 stamping?
Thanks

Wait for your approval letter from USCIS. That will specify the office you need to go. If you are in Alameda country you need to go to SF district office. Oakland is only a support center, not an USCIS office.

Kashmir,
Congratulations. Seems you will receive card very soon.

I got passport stamped on May 10th at San Jose, and no update since then. During stamping, the officer just asked us sign and print index finger at two sides of a kind of form, which was supposed to apply card. What's your experience regarding this part? The officer who served us moved very slowly (with a kind of disability), and I was afraid that something missing.

Thanks.

That's all you need - index fnger FP and signature on both sides of a form/card. I don't think officer's disability has anything to do with the delay in your case status update. Just like I485 processing, card processing/order is unpredictable. Some get sooner, some get later. Just relax!

Immature and judgemental opinion on the officer. Think before you post.
