If spouse gives up GC

Just wanted to have some advice ... we got our gc's in nov 07. We are in Canada at the present time. Me and my son have a re-entry permit till jul 2010. My wife does not. I could apply for her re-entry permit but she does dosent mind if she just gives her gc up because she doesnt think she wants to live in the us and work. She could always go as a tourist there.

My questions is:

1. If she gives up her GC...will it effect me and my son gc status? Is our GC automatically removed or it is on individual basis only?

2. Me and my son may apply again for re-entry in jun 2010 till he finishes his studies here. Will our application for re-entry be affected negatively if my spouse gives her gc up?

After obtaining unconditioned GC (for 10 years), every one can give up, extend, violate .....etc his (her) own GC with no effect on spouse, parent, kid's GCs.
 
Giving up GC may not be a very wise idea.

First off, since you will still have one, it is unlikely thather giving up GC will mean that she does not have to file taxes with IRS, since you will still, and it is almost always better to file jointly anyways.

Second, what if you decide to move back to US. She would not likely be re-admitted as a tourist given her spouse has a GC, and you probably wouldn't be able to sponsor her GC unless and until you became a US citizen. So the statement "She could always go as a tourist there" probably isn't entirely true.

Think on.
