Entered US in 08/1991
Applied asylum in 03/1993
ND 08/2001, exact 10 years after entered US

I am now planning to write an article or even a book (in my own language) about our miserable life in this greatest country in the world. Please support and tell us your story.

My story wouldn't be very impressive since I've got my asylum status less than in a year after enering U.S.

Mine too won't be impressive because I got asylum status within few months I entered US. I did much better during the last five years which I never imagined possible. Yes, it feels terrible to wait for a GC and live in legal limbo, but that never hinders me from achieving American dream. With the recent changes in asylum laws (removal of cap, settlement, and backlog reduction initiative by BCIS), I am feeling very optimistic about the future than ever. I know for fact how asylees in some other countries are suffering. We should see the positive side of being asylee in US.

I fully understand there are no unconditionally equal rights at every corner in the world. Some of us have spent a decade or more to be accepted, and others used a few months. The longer you stay here, the more tax you pay, the more contribution you make to this country, and the more rights you are supposed to have – wait, this is not the case for many of us.

I love this great country, but it is hard for me to appreciate its system. One thing is for sure: In my life I won’t send my kids to the battle fields to fight for US because the freedom I got from it is greatly discounted by its dirty politics.

There have been some under the radar rumbling about it, but nothing serious. I think we can handle Iraq with an all volunteer army. But a draft would be needed if we decided to go to war with N. Korea or if we came to Taiwan's aid in the event of a Chinese invasion. These two contingencies are possible.

I am really sorry to hear that you waited for so long just to get your asylum approved. I dont think you'll have any use of my example, I've got mine PA approved in five months from the date application was signed, dated, sent.
On top of everything, Federal Govenment of this Great Country gave me the money to go to school. Where in the world you'll get $$,$$$.$$ when your immigrant status is not clear yet? Find me just one. In my old country, my phisical exsistance was threatened, and I couldn't do it anywhere else. We all have different stories, but generaly speaking and I do appologise for taking that freedom - we are much better off here, instead wherever we coming from. So bite the bullet and wait, your time will come. Thanx.
