I am applying for adjustment of status plz help

i didn't know that my question will do all of that ... any way i thank every one who was trying to answer my question

and i am sure that Don Chinche do not want to misslead me i am sure that he want me to do like him and be in the safe side but as he say every case is different and my case was a regular case that doesn't need the police cl.
and my point is if i send too much paper for them too much document they may get lost between all of this or they may ask why he is sending this or that .. so i think the better way is to stick with what they want and send olny what they want..

No, it doesn't take a lawyer to apply for PR. I got advised by one to do it, and it went fine.

Was I supposed to send the police clearance?? Probably not, but I did it.

Bottom line, if something is missing in your application, you will be asked for it.

my timeline:

Asylum granted: may/2001

Sent I-485 (with Police clearance  ): oct/2005

I-485 Approved (for having sent police clearance :D ): oct 6/2006

G.C. in hand: oct 11/2006

Wow that was quick! I guess I should have sent my police clearance with my application :D

Police certificates are required in the following circumstances: (1) when the applicant's fingerprint chart cannot be read for a technical reason; (2) when the person applies under a special law like HRIFA. As I recall, the reason is that Congress drafted the special law in question in such a way that the DHS has to request a police certificate.

If you think that my time line was quick, you should see my wife's:

Asylum approved: jun/2005

I-485 sent: oct/2006

GC received: 01/2007

Her case was transfered from NSC to TSC.

She had to wait over 2 years for her asylum interview, though.

Wow...you both are very lucky! And think she has the record for the fastest case approved!! I wish there was some consistency with their approval.

I imagine they put all cases in a big pile, and pull them out at random.. We were lucky we got ours approved really quick, my wife's specially, but still it is not fair for many of you that have been waiting, and waiting for a loooong time...

I don't know if this is purely coincidential, but like 2 weeks before my case was approved I started a conversation via email with someone from NSC..

I was inquiring on the status of my case, and they were saying that cases were processed in the order in which they're received.. I told them that I knew of lots of people that submited their I-485 after I did, and were already GC holders, and asked for an IO direct phone number.. They kept refering me to the 1800 number, and I kept telling them that they don't know sh$%, and also told them that I knew of people that sued USCIS, and mysteriously their cases were dramatically expedited, so that seemed to be the only option for people whose cases have been delayed..

When I sent the last email saying that, they replied to me something like "your case is being reviewed now", and on the next day it was approved..

By the way, It never crossed my mind suing USCIS, I just was trying to be dramatic with them..

Good luck everyone.

I heard that they don't like to be sued so I guess that might have helped your case. By the way, how and where did you get an email of NCS. Would you mind sharing that info?

Thanks

It takes a couple of days for them to reply, but they do..

Another advise, when you have sent the email, click on the "back" button on your browser, and re-send it.. Do this 2 or 3 times.. That seems to work too.

Good luck.

Hi Don Chinche,

on Feb 15, I wrote an email to that email address you gave me. Now today they finally replied to me (after 12-13 days). There was one line only in the email and it's said: "Your case is currently being reviewed. Thank you." Now, from reading your experience, you were approved the next day. I was wondering if that could happen to me too?????? I want to get excited, but I am scared to get too excited. My LUD has not changed at all. Did yours change when you got that email and before you got the approval??? Please reply soon...I am too   :D

I will apply for the green card at the end of this month so is that all what I need to send with the I-485 or did I miss something

COPY OF:
Birth certificate
Passport page which have the visa
G-235A
2 passport photo
Employment letter to proof physical presence for 1 year
Copy from I-94 and asylum approval letter
Fees of 395$
A copy from selective service registration

Then the finger print and the medical later after they instruct me

Plz tell me if I miss something
thanks

My lawyer recommended me to send also the form I-643 attached with all documents need for adjustment. Check this:
http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-643.pdf
It's not requiered in the list but my lawyer said that is important.
Another question: Did you send your NP with wich visa? The one when you came the first time to the US? can you explain me what that means passport and visa? because also it is not in the list....
Thanks
