I-130 Pending, How long is the wait?

My mother is a Permanent Resident, she petition for myself and my brother in March 2004. It's now March 2005 and I want to know how much longer do we have to wait. Also, those USCIS separate I-130 by Country of birth? The reason why I ask this question is because I have heard that if and indiviual is from a country with a high migration rate to United States the longer the wait. Due to the high number of petitions.

Hi, you don't write in which category you are, in F2a or F2b because according to this the waiting time can be different. I was in category F2b and I was waiting for I-130 approval for 5 years but my father became USC and they approved my petition very fast. So, I thing you and your brother will have to wait couple more years for your petiton to be approved.

Thanks for answering my question Evi. I am in category F2B and my brother is in F2A. I also wanted to know if country of birth matters when it comes to USCIS? Is it faster if an individual is from a country with a low migration rate to the United States.

Hi, I'm sorry but I'm unable to answer your second question but maybe there will be someone who will know the answer.

Is I-130 the first step in bringing my wife to the USA?

Can you confirm for me that I-130 is the first step in bringing my Russian wife to the USA. I am quite sure but it always pays to do as much research as possible. Thanks

ks.

of course, it will have an effect. Are you a US citizen or LPR?

http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/bulletin/bulletin_2150.html

"First : Unmarried Sons and Daughters of Citizens over 21: 23,400 plus any numbers not required for fourth preference.

Second : Spouses and Children, and Unmarried Sons and Daughters of Permanent Residents: 114,200, plus the number (if any) by which the worldwide family preference level exceeds 226,000, and any unused first preference numbers:

A. Spouses and Children: 77% of the overall second preference limitation, of which 75% are exempt from the per-country limit;

B. Unmarried Sons and Daughters (21 years of age or older): 23% of the overall second preference limitation.

Third : Married Sons and Daughters of Citizens: 23,400, plus any numbers not required by first and second preferences.

Fourth : Brothers and Sisters of Adult Citizens: 65,000, plus any numbers not required by first three preferences."

If you are an LPR and she is under 21, she is in category 2A. If she is married, I don't think you can even apply for her.

If you are a citizen, and she is unmarried under 21, she is going through as an immediate relative of a USC. See below about visa numbers. If she is married, she moves to a category 3, which has a much longer wait for a visa number - 7 years.

"The immediate relatives of U.S. citizens, which includes parents, spouses and unmarried children under the age of 21, do not have to wait for an immigrant visa number to become available once the application filed for them is approved by the USCIS. An immigrant visa number will be immediately available for immediate relatives of U.S. citizens." http://uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/immvisa.htm#elig

alien registration number

I am filing an I-130 for my wife in May. I see on the form that it asks for an alien registration number. I am having a difficult time finding out if this is vital, or if it only asks for this information in the likelihood that one is already present. To the best of my reasoning this will be obtained after she will join me in the USA. If someone can support me with some information on this issue I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance
