I am an active duty Soldier (Army) who has been married for 17 years. 10 years ago I sponsored my german wife in obtaining her legal immigrant card (green card). It is expiring in November 2010 and she is now wanting a divorce. I do not choose to help her renew the green card and continue to be her sponsor. What are my options if any? I refuse to pay the additional fees to get her another 10 year green card when we are OVER. Please someone give me some guidance.

Thanks,

A needy Soldier

You have no choice in the matter, but you do not need to pay anything. She pays for the I-90 card herself; it's just a renewal of the card itself. She remains a permanent resident and your obligations under the affidavit of support remain in force whether the card is renewed or not.

At 10 years, she is long past the stage where she needs your involvement to renew her green card. This renewal is independent of you; she will sign and submit the paperwork herself and you don't have to pay anything towards it.
