You will not have green card if you are us citizen.
You need to send your US passport with copy of canceled Indian Passport and fee and thats all.
Though you seem to type fast or whatever your posting is not very clear.

Help...

Sorry I am just so frustrated.

I dont have my old passport. I am a US citizen, dont have my green card anymore, they took my greeen card when I became a US citizen. Been a citizen since 1990. The SF consulate office is saying since I dont have my orginal indian passport, I need a copy of my green card. My visa expired 1 year ago.

I am just trying to get a visa again. WHere can I get a copy of green card from, in short notice. Who keeps copies of there green card, once they come a citizen.

I dont know where by passport is. That was from 20 years ago. I didnt think i would need my indian passport when I became a US citizen.

No, I didnt keep any copies of my green card. I didnt think I would need them. I did not work for any employer that would have my green card. I was in school when I became a citizen.

Why is the SF consulate the one asking for green card copy? I see the other consulates arent. USCIS will take months to get my green card copy. I need to get visa ASAP!.

i guess you may be able to give an affidavit that you lost your indian passport. Try to explore in this direction.

1. Try to find your Indian passport or Copy of Indian passport.
2 Try to provide them the copy of your Naturalization certificate(it has your Country of Birth).
Explain them that Green Card was taken by USCIS when you became US citizen 20 years back.
Make the affidavit that you don't have copy of your Green Card, write your place of birth, date of birth (if have copy of Indian Birth certificate provide them).
I think by asking copy of Green Card they are trying to find out if you or your parents taken political asylum in US.

SF Consulate has also posted: If you do not physically have your last held Indian passport, you can apply only for renunciation of Indian Citizenship with a photocopy of the passport/details of the passport filled in column -- of the form/ and affidavit renouncing your citizenship giving full details of your passport.
Go to consulate with all the evidence you have being Indian Citizen before you got US citizenship.
*** Update us as others can find info how you resolved the matter.
Good Luck!!

The SF consulate is a real pain in the arse, no doubt. I don't see any options if you don't have copies from 20 years go. I completely understand you don't, though I am the type of person who keeps old passports and ID cards, and scans or copies of them if I didn't have the options of holding onto the originals. Where did you apply for your last Indian passport? In SF? If so, they should have records of it, so see if they can dig them up. Otherwise, you can ask if a sworn, notarised testimony stating that you don't have records from so long ago and what visa you came under will be enough. Good luck.

Honestly, if I were you, I would've gathered all the documents mentioned in this thread so far, whatever you can locate and just visit the SFO Indian Embassy and speak to them, get the answers, that way you would get the correct information, quickly enough for you to get the VISA accordingly.

I dont have my Indian passport. I dont have my green card. I am so sick of this red tape. I have been a US citizen for over 20 years. I cant believe SF consulate, is the only Indian consulate that requires a green card. Why is that?? All other consulate just require US citizen paper, Houston, Texas. SF is a pain!

I dont think i will be going to India now because of all this. I filled out form g639 to get a copy of green card and it will make 20 days. By that time it is too late.

Thanks everyone for the info.

If I were you, I would visit the SF consulate in person and try to explain this situation to them there. It can't hurt to make the argument that you already have had an India visitor visa before and all you're looking for is a new visa so that you can attend a wedding. Are you trying to get a new visitor visa or an OCI? You definitely will not get the OCI in time if that is what you're trying to do. Take a signed affidavit stating the facts of your situation as well as a completed application to the best of your ability. Hopefully you will get to speak to someone reasonable. Good luck!

I have heard that they have issued one time Indian visa if you have a family emergency or a family occasion. You may have to go there physically and present your case strongly. That way you can get atleast one time visa to visit India. You can take care of the other stuff later.

Once you are back start the procedure for getting the surrender certificate first. I did not have Indian passport, greencard. I had the copy of Indian passport which they accepted. My wife did not have that either. For her they accepted the US passport which she used to get the Visa to India for the first time she travelled to India after becoming US citizen. Check the list of things needed on consulate website.

But for now, if you really want to go to India then go there in person and see if you can convince them to give you VISA. I would suggest that if possible, take all the paperwork necessary for getting the surrender certificate. If they give you the surrender certificate then getting VISA might be slightly easier.
