hi...i need some help. i am trying to get as much info as i can before getting a lawyer involved. i want to move to California on a TN visa, but so far i am so discourged. anyone got time to answer a few questions?

reduntant or not. here goes... do i apply for work in the US first or do i apply for the TN first?...as well, is it better to go through a recruiter or to do it all myself?...what do i do about housing once i secure a job in the states?...i am moving with no family or friends in the US so i am not sure how or where to start. information pertaining to this subject would help more than pointing out the redundacy. thanks

Ok, but remember that you are the one asking for help.

This is a TN-specific site, to answer questions on actually applying for, maintaining, and renewing TN status -- not finding a job.

You need to find the job first (contacts, recruiter, monster.com -- which ever way works for you).

At the same time you also need to make sure that you qualify for a TN: your education and or experience match up with the criteria for the category you are going to request TN under.
So,
do you have a bach degree, or a diploma and 3-years experience?
Do you know what TN category you currently qualify for?

If you don't have degree or diploma or experience, you need to get these first.

Once you find the job, then would be a good time to bone up on the details of getting TN (letter, documents, etc). We can help you with that here.
You can't move to US until you get job AND then get the TN, so housing and moving stuff are down the list, and most find that these take care of themselves.

But this isn't a job referral site, if that is what you mean.

what if i dont fall under any of the job catagories listed under NAFTA?...do i still have to apply for the TN? or am i looking under the wrong type of visa?...i am a canadian citizen, so if i get a job offer to work in the states, what visa do i need if any?..

so, basically, i need a degree in something on the nafta list in order to move? :(

What is your profession? What is your education? In order to figure out what visa category you might fit in you need to be forthhcoming with details. If your work experience is limited to Burger King, you will not qualify as an Outstanding Researcher.

i have a license to do nails. i owned my own business for a few years working from home, but other than that i have high school education. other than working from home part time and working various other jobs in customer service and resturants, bars, hotels etc...

i was given a link to a website called canucksabroad.com and it has a list of jobs in california that is specific to contract work in various jobs such as customer service...that is part of the reason i have gotten so confused by the different peices of info im given. sometimes it sounds to good to be true.
