Help: N-400 Denied due to Abandonment

I say find out how much and how long will it be to re-open your case, I know is hard to tell how long but I see the applications are being processed really quick now days. My question is.....If a person applies and this happens when that person re-applies do the IO look at this differently? or they dont care that you applied once and abandoned the application.

Mimi,

USCIS doesn't care if you applied before, as long as the application fee is correct, they will cash it and start worrying about how many times you have applied. Filing fees provides about $2,1 billion in operating budget for USCIS.

Depending on the reason given, a reopen fee may not be required. It's worth the effort to request a reopen based on not receiving correspondence from USCIS instead of reapplying all over again.

If you're in no partcular rush, then I would move to reopen your case versus reapply. $675 is a lot of money........

On the notice it says there is no fee to request reopening the case. Not sure if there will be a fee added later but I'm assuming it'll be no more than $675.

I can just do it now and if it doesn't work out then I can reapply later.

Thanks everyone.

I think my mom will be going the same way. She applied on 7/17, FP done on 8/19. Today I accidentally checked her status online and it said they mailed her request for evidence on Aug 5. She never received it. And it has been almost a month since then....I made Infopass appointment for her for next Friday and will call tomorrow to 1-800 line.....

If her FP was done on 8/19 then wouldn't that have been the notice from Aug 5th? Take a look at the date on the FP appointment letter.

I went through a similar situation in 2007 where my 1st N400 was denied due to abandonment, because I did not go for fingerprinting. All I had to do was write a letter explaining the fact that I did not receive FP notice and that I respectfully ask to reopen the case etc etc... They sent me a letter a week later stating that my case has been reopened and another week later received FP appointment. I would give it a shot if I were you. If it is a no you can just reapply. I had to withdraw my original application for other reasons and reapplied in April.
