First time visa applicants are usually required to appear for an interview...happened to my wife for her very first H4 visa application...although there was no 'interview'..she was just asked for marriage cert and my I-797 H1 approval notice, pay the money and that was it.

Chennai US consulate website says "Is applying in the H-1B visa category either for the first time or as a renewal, and their dependents (spouse and minor children). " have to use Drop Box. And 2 of my friends recently got married and they used Hyderabad Drop box and got H4 in one week. I heard same applicable at Mumbai. If they have any questions they may call for interview.

As she has never visited US on H4, it is going to be her first H4 visa stamp, according to my opinion and past cases, she has to visit Bombay consulate for Visa stamp. If you try through Visa services normally they check all the relevant papers for H4 stamp and she may get her H4 stamped through Visa services or she will get a date to visit the Consulate

IS I-797 approval notice original reqd or the photocopy of I-797 approval notice would do?Since some sites say original is reqd and some say photocopy is enough.
What are the other documents asked ?as i am planning to get the H4 stamping for my wife.
