Greenland Summary Report

more like "we-know-we-are-miserable-but-we-can't-help-it-can-we" syndrome.

as an aside, and as a probably relatively silly question, what is Priority Date really? I don't have one (there's a blank space where it's supposed to be) - does this have anything to do with the fact that my 140 was EB1? or am i just plain retarded?

It is usually the date on which the labor certification application is filed with the state agency. If you do not have to go through the labor certification process (EB1s and EB-2-NIWs), the receipt date of the I-140 is the PD.

PDs were important during an earlier epoch when enough VISA numbers were not available to accommodate all the I-140s approved during any given year for the corresponding country of origin of the I-140 beneficiary. So even after one's I-140 was approved, beneficiaries had to wait in queue (based on their PDs) until a visa number became available before they were eligible to adjust their status.

Much water has flowed under the bridge since, and courtesy of the tardy ways of the INS, visa numbers are no longer an issue as they are readily available these days. This (as there is no reason to maintain a queue) rendered the PD largely irrelevant. Of-course, if the INS starts to process AOS applications like crazy and magically clears the backlog, we might again, hypothetically speaking, get to a situation where visa allotments are a scarce commodity and PDs regain their lost sheen. Somewhere along the line, the INS, ever the realist, decided that this outcome is implausible and stopped printing PDs on notices. I guess it saved them some ink and helped them comply with the requirements of the 'paperwork reduction act'!

Long-winded answer to a rather short (silly?) question; beg pardon.;)

thanks, sankrityayan - you were very helpful (and ultra-erudite), as always. if nothing else, your words bring some bubbly, fresh froth in our ever-expanding scum of lacklustre ocean.

Sankrityayan
prioirty dates might retrogress even if 485 are not approved.
visa nos are based on 485 filed and not based on 485 approved.
To tweak your assessment. If DOL clears lot of LC's people may file 485's in record nos which is likely when PERM takes place

Oooh.... No matter the shortcomings in my knowledge of PDs,

I am basking in this.... deluding myself for a moment that the real pleasures of language have not long passed me by.... Easy prey for the iconoclasts, huh?:p

Yes, of-course; I got a little ahead of myself there.

As I think about this some more, I recall having read somewhere that even if the visa numbers are current now and an I-485 is filed on the basis of an available visa number, there is a remote possibility that the application might be put in limbo by the INS because of visa numbers becoming unavailable retroactively. At the time I thought I understood how this cound happen, but now this concept seems to elude me altogether.

Could some gnome out there throw some light on this? Thanks.

I'm in the same as you are Sankrityayan. Can they issue visa numbers retroactively at all? Based on the joint filing rule, it is my understanding that it cannot. Can somebody shed some light on that please?

Just a thought... if DOL does clear a lot of LCs and there is a subsequent shortage of visas, the newly cleared LCs would have to wait until a visa number does become available to file their 485s. Those of us who have already filed 485 shouldnt have a problem.

Correct me if I'm wrong

Summary Update

Thanks for those who contributed to running scripts. Their names are mentioned in the report.

Almost 40 cases were touched (>20 approved) for LIN 157 in the last 1.5 weeks.

Please ignore the 119 stats (sorry Pork) I found a bug in the Excel links (Not Porks mistake) and this column is all wrong - I will repair and update.

Summary Update

The Summary Report has been updated and some corrections made. Thanks to all the contributors.

funkyjunky

i've just emailed you the updated versions of LIN-164 (LOT of approvals!) and LIN-131.

Another Update

Another few LIN's updated. At least there is some activity, but not enough to reduce the backlog yet.

Any report for LIN-02-093?

Is there a report already out in this for LIN-02-093?

My dates are as follows:
PD: 03/1999
RD: 01/10/2002
ND: 01/25/2002
FP : 03/11/2002
On 3rd EAD (Thanks to EAD renewals getting approved before 90 days, and becoming effective before the earlier one expires)

No RFE, no 2nd FP.

Wondering if my case (or is it most files on my ND/RD) has been bypassed already?

Thanks!

kevin_brown, you are luckier than some people. LIN02093 is a "Good" LIN. If you examine the summary report graphs, you will see that this day falls in an "Up" cycle rather than in one of the inexplicable troughs that the USCIS has created in their processing.
