Hello,
I granted asylum through the IJ. First I want to thanks forum members, sharing knowledge & expertise with me. you are the my trusted resources in this process. IJ granted asylum more than one month & two weeks ago. I called 1800# & find out government hadn't appeal for decision. but few unanswered questions remains, I haven't get single document regarding my approval from immigration court or asylum office. I call both institute, asylum office says because I have received asylum from immigration court, it's not under there jurisdiction & immigration court says that's not true it's up to asylum office to send documents. then I ask asylum office where to file I-94, they says immigration court supposed to give me a document package & then make info appointment with district office (USCIS) & file with them. I went to apply financial aid for my school. they says I have to bring I-94# as Assylee. I feel like in a limbo situation. I want to get my I-94 ASAP but can't figure out how to get it. I always appreciate forum members expertise & experiences. I always rely on you. Please help me go through this last stretch. thank you

Hi,

I was in the same position as you. I went to immigration to receive an I-94 and they did not issue me one. They simply do not know the rules.
I just used the judges approval letter.
Speak to a manager in your school's admission office , not a front desk person.
You are now eligible for financial aid and in-state tuition rates.

thank you for reply, Federal student loan application specifically ask I-94 #, that's the reason financial aid office bugging me. can I apply for SS# with out I-94? thank you again. please I need every ones advices.

They can run your name against their database and confirm that you're in the country legally.
Even without the I-94, I was able to proceed here in Florida.
This might seem a little crazy but I got my I-94 when returning from a trip abroad.
Local immigration offices, as I said before, are a pain and the staff is not knowledgeable about asylees.I'd give it another try demanding to talk to a supervisor this time. Or see if your attorney might be willing to help with this issue.

Also, now you are eligible for an unrestricted SS number and a regular 5 year Drivers license.

I have never applied for a student loan but have applied for student financial aid and I never had to put in my I-94 #.

If you apply for a financial aid, then they will use the online verification system called SAVE. This system will check your immigration status. If the system can't verify your asylum status, then they will call EOIR to check the judge decision and the DHS attorney decision.

The SSA also uses the same system.

The first step to do is to go to the immigration court in person and ask them to give you an official letter that shows the judge granted you an asylum. Then take that letter to the local USCIS office to get I-94.

You see that's true i.e the procedure that SSA follows if SAVE comes back negative BUT colleges are not bound to use that procedure and most of them don't (i.e Judge's decision granting an asylum) . They either want a green card or at least an i-94 stamped to show an asylee status. The Dept of Education also checks the gov't databases when you apply for financial aid. So, when it comes negative in the SAVE query, its pretty hard for colleges to reverse that on its own although one can try sorting that out with the IJ's decision with the Dept of Education.

Thank you all for sharing knowledge & expertise, Today I Spend four hours in SS Administration to get SS, First representative told I can't apply because I am still "proceeding", I am not granted & court letter doesn't prove i am granted. then I went back to line, get# ask from another representative she told me, I can't get unrestricted SS# with out I-94. then again I went back to line & get another# ask another, window she told there is no way i can get SS without I-94. then I asked talked to supervisor, she got really piss off with me and closed the window. then I wait an hour supervisor to call me, I explain to her policy, procedure, asylee rights (which I learn from Forum) she carefully listen to me and called that lady who get piss off with me & teach her how to do it, with in five minutes I got receipt. I like see it as very interesting experience and nothing impossible in this great land.

This happened to me too when I got my unrestricted SS.
The lady told me that only citizens and GC holders can get unrestricted SS. I showed her the official procedure that SS staff uses. She started listening to me when she realizes that I know what I am talking about.

It also happened to me.

The first woman was uninformed.
The second knew the law.
Today, I have an unrestricted SS card.
