i am planning to apply GC (Family based) for my mother who is in India. I planning to use a lawyer to file the application. Do you guys recommend any body who is good at it.

Also i heard that once you get the receipt for the application filed, relative can visit and stay in US for more than 6 months on showing the proof that GC has been applied. IS this true?

Quite the opposite - they become much less likely to be admitted as a visitor.

This is absolutely false. The fact that you are applying for a green card means that it is far less likely that you will get a visa to visit.

-Wrong. they will not get US Visitor visa once immigrant visa application has been filed.
