GC backdated 10 years

Clearly it is a mistake, but it's a mistake of immigration. If they figure out later about the mistake they have to assume its mistake, and not the applicant who was so innocent :p to understand immigration policies. ;)

Like I said: playing with a fire.

I don't think immigration would look at it this way. I would assume they would come after you sooner or later. They would say, a reasonable asylee should not expect to have his GC backdated for ten years and he is not expected to apply for Citizenship soon after he/she got GC. Look at it this way--Does a reasonable asylee would accept a GC which is not backdated or post dated? I don't think so. I think it is not intiutive to expect a GC backdated 10 years. I would advise you to notify the authorities. You GC is most important to you, at this point, and I would n't mess up with this.

I would strongly advise honesty.

Well if you are talking about "legal" asylee..then nowhere in the citizenship application it says about having GC In hand for certain years. It says that "legal Presence" of 5 years...aren't asylees legally present when they get their asylum approved??

That is so stupid! Even a student on F-1 (student visa) can be "legally" present for 5 years in the US.

But you can't apply for citizenship after 5 years being on F-1 Visa

I know a asylee who got his GC backdated to his date of entry and he applied for citizenship after 5 years from the date on the GC he got the citizenship without any problem.Who knows why they did they backdated 10 yrs.
I got approval letter from my local USCIS office in oct 1998, it was clearly stated that you are permanent resident since oct 1998 and bring your passport anytime for stamp but I did not get my GC till april 2002 and it was backdated feb 2001 so based on oct 1998 approval notice I applied for citizenship in oct 2003 along with the approval letter,a cover letter and a copy of GC.
They send me the whole package with the note that you will be eligible to apply on 2005. They did not even cash the money order. Before applying the citizenship I called the USCIS several times everybody told me to apply on Oct 2003.My opinion it does not matter what date you have on your GC it's all matter what they have in their computer, If their computer have the same date you have on your GC then YOU GOT IT MAN.

:D

Trying to apply does not mean committing a fraud. He did not change his green card issue date by himself. An ordinary person is not nessesarily expected to know the laws. The worst thing CIS can do to him is, as jattindc1 said, deny his petition with the explanation. From my point of view, it never hurts to try.
I would.

Absolutely right moreover they did not deny my application I got the whole package as it is with a sticky note on that, not any official letter or something like that or stating about deniel,if I'm in your situation I will apply for CZ in a hgeart beat.

Not knowing the laws is not an excuse.
