Frustrated

So I contacted USCIS yesterday and did get some info. First I was told they were waiting on my name check to clear. Then I was told that they were waiting for my fingerprints. I told them that I did a service request months ago and was told that they were reusing my prints from I-751. The I.O. told me to hang on and I could her the I.O. typing away for a few minutes. Was then told that OK, they are reusing my prints and that actually I should get an interview appointment soon as my case was just assigned an officer late last week and to call back later this week for more info. I feel I am in purgatory. The past 2 times I called USCIS I was told that I was in the interview queue, no mention of fingerprints or anything. Once I clarified by saying to the I.O. "OK, so you're telling me that I am just waiting on an interview date to become available in Philadelphia?" and the I.O. said "yes". My patience is very thin. As soon as I reach the 5 month mark In a few weeks) I will be contacting my Congressman and the USCIS ombudsman. If I do get my interview letter before the 5 month mark then I won't contact them. At least yesterday I received some info instead of the usual canned response I usually receive. It seems that my name check is taking a long time. Would my case be assigned an officer if my name check wasn't complete?

Just some more info. I filed n-400 in July, I have a priority date of July 31st. I received the YL over 2 months ago.

In most instances, interviews are only scheduled once name check has been completed.

Not anymore, it was a policy that ended in 2008 where USCIS was not scheduling N-400 interviews with the name check clearance to avoid 1447(b) lawsuits.
Nowadays interviews get scheduled anyway and if not cleared by the interview day, handout a decision cannot be made option if the applicant passes everything else.
It was a policy that ended with the previous AG.

Vehar, First of all you need to be patient. They are working on your case. Calling 1800 will not help much. Just make infopass and talk to officer at the counter. If you got the yellow notice you would get your interview notice soon. Follow up by INFOPASS.

Well I'm over two hours away from my D.O. so infopass isn't as easy as it sounds. I am trying to be patient however, I received the yellow letter over two months ago and keep being told different things from the 1800 no. Plus, I am of the understanding that you can get the same info calling the 1800 no. as an infopass. I understand that this takes time. But when I see people who filed in September and October receiving their interview notices in is annoying. I know it depends on many things, background check, how many cases in front of yours, how busy the D.O. is. I know every case is different but damn it! I want o be a citizen!:)

are you following the tracker thread for your month? What's happening with the folks filed during the same time and same DO?

Have they received interview letter?

Same case with me. N-400 sent on June 28th. Aug 4th- FP done . Yellow letter received on September 9th. No trace of IL yet. After calling 1-800 umpteen times got a letter from National benefit center saying application is currently pending an interview date with your local USCIS field office and if I do not hear from them within 90 days of tihs notice date calll them back !!!!.Which is your local office? Mine is Fortsmith AR

My local office is Philadelphia. I have called the 1800 umpteen times too. I have been told three or four times that I am in the interview queue and then they tell me that they are waiting on my fingerprints to clear, only to have me tell them that "I opened a service request several months ago re not receiving a biometrics exam and was told on this 1800 line that USCIS were reusing my prints from I-751" and they tell me "well last Friday an officer was assigned to your case and call back in in a few days". I call back and guess what...I am in the interview queue. I have looked at the July filers on this forum and don't see any from Philly. Those from other months on the Philadelphia filers thread seem to have moved faster then my case. I guess patience is virtue, I just have to try and be patient!

I am planning to contact my senator next week. Heard they will be helpful in such situations.

Fingerprints usually get cleared in 48 hours. You can call FBI directly and check this. Unfortunately there is no way to check the namecheck status though.
